| PiccaloJr05-16-07, 02:33 PM | Got a question or 2 for the gurus. I've got a Human Artificer I'm running in out current game. I've sat down with the DM and we're going thru, level by level up to 4th, and rolling/making/planning what he's going at create using his crafting reserve. So for his items created at 1st level I'm going for scrolls. ECS says that artificers make scrolls as Artificer scrolls, just like Wiz/Sorc use Arcane and Cleric/Druid use Divine. My first question is this, when your making a Cure Light/Moderate/Serious/Critical wounds, what pricing do you use? Divine or Arcane? They are listed in both. I'd lean toward the Divine, but I'm really not sure. Second question. What scrolls are the most benificial, in your individual opinions, at 1st-4th level? I can't craft wands yet for the utility spells, so scrolls it is. (Trust me. I know not everyone is gonna agree on what is -good- on this one.) Third, and finally, what Wondrous items would you guys suggest? Our party consists of a: Warforged Fighter, Human Scout, Elven Druid, and myself Human Artificer. Thanks ahead of time. ^_^ |
| Bodger05-16-07, 05:36 PM | IN any order but strong suggestion would be 1. Goggles of Night (DMG) 2. Belt of healing (MIC) 3. Something to bolster your UMD (DM ok first +5) 4. Amulet of Natural Armor +1 (DMG) 5. and what ever else you can afford and make Bodger |
| Edymnion05-16-07, 06:01 PM | You still price the item you are making as if you were creating it normally. In the case of scrolls, if you are making a divine scroll, price it as a divine scroll at the level the divine spell it uses. The *ONLY* differance is that the end result is only usable via UMD. |

Right. I get that. My question is though could you just use one or the other? Or is there a preference? Lemme explain a bit further. Bards can cast the cure spells as arcane right? Clerics and Druids cast the divine versions, correct? So, if an Artificer goes to make a scroll of lets say Cure Light Wounds, would he just use either? I mean the logical/practical/frugal thing to do would be to make the divine one. It's cheaper to make. I just wondered if there was an ruling or something on -that- specifically. I do get the item creation rules though. ^_^ |

Make the divine version, since the caster level is lower than the bard's. Also, make divine versions of spells like Identify, as they only require a focus and not the 100 gp pearl, which over the long run can save you lots of money. |

Didn't we establish in some discussion that in cases where there's the choice between a divine focus and a material component the latter had to be used? I distinctly remember reading something like that... |
| Michael_Silverforge05-18-07, 08:22 AM | Master PiccaloJr, 1)Cure Scrolls: You can use either divine or arcane. I agree with Master Edymnion that you would be better served to use the cheapest. 2)Scrolls: The great benefit of being an artificer is that your caster level is at +2 when you make an item, therefore as a 1st level artificer you can TRY to make up to 2nd level Wiz/Sor/Cler/Druid spell scrolls. As a 3rd level artificer you can make up to 3rd level WSCD spell scrolls. My favorites as a 1st level artificer were, Cure Light Wounds, Entangle, Barkskin, Invisibility, Mirror Image, Blindness/Deafness (W/S-2). As a 3rd level Artificer my favorites included the previous plus Call Lightning. 3)Wondrous Items: UMD + item Cannith Goggles (Magic of Eberron) Amulet of Natural Armor |

I distinctly remember reading something like that...Not that I saw, and I don't recall ever reading in the actual rules "If there are two ways to make an item, you have to take the most expensive way", and I doubt they would make such a rule. Sounds more like what the boards came up with. |
