| Sithraldor03-14-08, 09:13 AM | I figured maybe considering the people over on the character optimazation board ignored it you'll may help. I'm building a character for an upcoming campaign. It is me & 1 other friend playing a tough campaign. So we are gestalt characters (Take 2 level at the same time). We play in Eberron. We are going to be playing from 1st to 20th level. I know I want to be an artificer I have to be a blastier, healer & skill monkey for the two of us. He is the Tank. I want to be good at blasting but not overwhelmingly so. I thing I got the artificer side figured but I but know what to be for the other class. I figure maybe be a cannith wand wielder & alchemist savant. factotum looks appealing that is were you guys come in any help you can be is appreciated thanks in advance. Also we have access to almost any book & multiclassing like crazy is ok, a little cheese is ok not like a 1 level dip in wizards & cleric but you probably get the picture. |
| larry_the_titan03-14-08, 12:19 PM | Well found your Char Optz thread on Page 4. That to me means the thread needs to be broken up a little bit more with the load of traffic it gets. But that is not part of the issue here. Building a Gestalt character means covering the abilities that the party lacks with a class combo or covering the weaknesses of the 2 classes by only using the strengths of the 2 classes combined. The artificer can cover any spell in the book so multi classing into another caster is a waste unless you get some truly needed class abilities. The Artificer's main focus stat is Cha and Int of those 2 Cha is the most important. Finding classes that benefit from Cha or Int are a must. Crusaders and Hexblades can really can really benefit from those stats and cover your Low HD size. Warmage also would help as it would allow you to cast arcane spells in armor with out Arcane Spell Failure taking effect. Though if you want something truly cheesy try Rogue, Hexblade, Hexblade, Rogue, Hexblade with 5 levels of Artificer on the other side for lots of skills, Evasion, Mettle and Cha to saves vs spells. You could get the same Benefit from Artificer 20//Monk 5/Paladin 5/Argent Fist 10. Which effectively nets you the best of anything you wanted but with strict alignment restrictions. But the total of that build would be Monk 20 + Paladin 20 + Artificer 20. |
| Omen_of_Peace03-15-08, 08:06 AM | Actually, Int is more important in the long run since you want many infusions. Factotum is an excellent choice (and not only because I'm biased and really like them ;)). The Chameleon PrC goes well with Factotum ; but straight Factotum is fine. |
| DrunkMonk03-18-08, 05:15 PM | This may seem kind of nuts, but have you considered warlock? You get to take 10 on UDM checks at fourth level, blasting (not great but always there), all the invocations, etc... You can go the powers showed up after a experiment blew and changed your regular artificer into an mix of the two classes. DM |

I know there's ways of getting around it with plants and undead, but as far as I know bards have no way around construct's immunity to mind-affecting effects. |

If not, just homebrew one. Its not like you don't have precedence for every other type in the game. |
| prozacman03-28-08, 04:08 PM | i'm currently playing a gestalt artificer looks something like this.. artificer20 // ftr2/marshal1/dragonfire adept 1/cleric 1/renegade mastermaker 7/ cannith wand adept 3/ something 5 a little cheesy with all the multi classing, but what i enjoy about it is flat bonuses to all knowledge checks and mundane craft checks. later on cool half warforged goodies and of course the wand adept is the center of my offensive capacity So far (hes level 4) i've been the support character repairing the other party member (a warforged) and making all sorts of mundane equipment. I've also been a sort of repository of random knowledge (DFA invokation). I'm a passable face with the marshal's motivate charisma aura. In general very fun. He's currently trying to invent a floating carriage with soar wood.. still on the drawing board though. |
| Doomsought03-30-08, 01:55 PM | Artificer can provide plenty of buffs, try being a warlock as well. it'll give you a good blast with unlimited ammo. that should fit you quite well and you won't have to spells per day lists to track, warlock just gives you spell like abilities. |
| UCsimplyme04-02-08, 12:37 PM | My vote would be for a human Artificer/Beguiler from 1 to 20. You pick up the needed skills from the beguiler, along with utility combat spells (haste), and lean towards a blastificer build on the artificer side. This allows you to focus on your Int for casting and Cha for skills. Additionally, your ability to wear armor isn't wasted. You could even drop in 5 levels of abjurant champion if you picked up the shield spell with the Ecclectic Knowledge substitution ability. This would bump your BAB past the +16 mark too (2/3rds bab from artificer and a fighter bab for 5 levels). |
| Edymnion04-02-08, 09:08 PM | Or you could just really cheese it. Artificer 20//Cleric 20, and be a Cleric of Aureon. Take the Magic domain. You now have the full divine and arcane spell lists, so you can just throw that entire UMD check out the window. |
