The +2 variant of this cost 25,000 gold to buy and it lists a CL of 18. At first in my crafting I thought the CL was telling me as an artificer what I could make. After reading through way to many posts I know that the CL is of the creator and isnt a hard number. More so that the preqresits of the item are whats the limiting factor in crafting. So with all that said, the spells listed in making the belt are all second level spells. Bulls Strength, Cats Grace, etc. Is there a modifier because the item has all 6 of these at +2? Or as a 4th lvl Artificer could I make one if I had the funds to do so? Emulating all six spells in the creation process. |

A canny DM would rewrite such an item. A less canny one will refuse. Another DM will say "Sure, it's in the rules so it must be okay" and act surprised when half his players throw hissy fits and the game breaks up early. My advice is to overlook this option and carry on. It is a legal option, but it's not a smart legal option. |

I understand the overpowerment of the item. What I want to clearify is the actual rules (or guidelines) for creating the item. An item has prerequisits spells that I must have or emulate to create the item. Then it has a CL X value that is listed. I understand the CL is supposed to be of the person crafting the item. If I create this item since I can emulate all six spells, then is my version of the item CL 4 since I am 4th level? |

I do have to meet the CL -2 for the spell. On a further note, in searching in another forum I found a similar question and understand mine better now. Thank you for your help. |
