| taigen03-06-07, 07:22 PM | I am in a game not set in Ebberon and am playing an artificer (the DM has made them part of the setting) and we are debateing the viability of makeing warforged on a smaller scale then ebberon, useing Craft Construct. Getting away from the setting and the long drawn out process they were made from here and just looking at their capabilities and balance, we are trying to set specifics such as cost and caster level. I have suggested effigy creature as a start, seeing as the intellegence vs the better construct traits is pretty much an even trade, they are pretty similar to a effigy 'human'. Any other thoughts on the subject? -Taigen |

I'm just saying it's like asking how one makes an Elf, or a Gnoll, or a Dragon in terms of game mechanics. Generally, it involves a mommy and a daddy loving each other very much. That's not quite the case when it comes to warforged, but the fact remains that Warforged are really closer to Elves and Dwarves when it comes to game mechanics (possessing a Constitution, levels in a class, Intelligence and free-will, etc) than a Golem or Homonculous. Now, if you were going to strip away the "PC Race-ness" of Warforged by eliminating their constitution, class levels, potential to level-up, etc, I would think modifiying the Effigy template somewhat and sticking it on a Human Warrior might work fine. Then we get into ethical (fluff) and mechanical (crunch) problems, which I won't go into to much detail about, but will touch on: - How intelligent is Forgey? Does he even POSSESS Intelligence, or is he in fact Mindless? - If intelligent, is Forgey free-willed? If so, what will you do to make him stick around and do as you say? He could make a nifty Cohort, if you invest in Leadership. If he's not free-willed, you've essentially manufactured an intelligent slave. He may resent that, even if he can't possibly do anything about it. Still, stripping out the PC-ness effectively makes Warforged lesser golems. There are few constructs out there for low-level crafters to make (half seem to require wish), so having the ability to make a squad of 2-3HD warrior minions sounds pretty good. |
