Hello,

I am currently messing around with a character idea for an Aerenal Elf Deathguard. Their mission is to destroy undead and necromancers, sounds simple enough. So, a paladin sounds like fun. Also note that I do not wish to multi-class at all, I'm talking pure paladin power.

I am trying to select feats for flavor as well as power. Oh, I am going for a high Charisma build. Here are the feats that I am leaning towards at the moment:

Level 1: Right of Counsel
Level 3: Iron Will
Level 6: Sacred Vengeance
Level 9: Sacred Healing (PH II version)
Level 12: Sacred Purification
Level 15: Extra Turning
Level 18: Extra Turning

I may swap out one of the Extra Turning feat for Divine Vigor, since at higher levels the extra temp hit points is crazy good. One big question I have is Right of Counsel worth anything? It seems like one could simply role play gaining the right to enter the City of the Dead.

Less important, but in the PH2 for the suggested feats for a paladin it lists taking Extra Turning at 3rd level. Is this a typo, or am I missing something? Paladin don't get Turn Undead until 4th level. I just want to make sure I didn't miss a rule because 3rd level feels like a wasted feat level. I want more turning or turning feats, but can't take it...so I basically have to fill it with a filler feat.

I'm at work, so I don't know a few of those feats off the top of my head. They look good, but I will mention this ...

In my current Eberron Campaign one of my players is an Elven member of the Deathguard. Currently a Paladin 8, leveling up to 9 when next session begins he took Right of Counsel at level 1. It has brought him little good in a non-Aerenal based campaign ... this is no fault but my own of course.

Now, its great for flavor, the Deathless have taken some strange interest in you and its given me quite a few hooks to sink into him with. But mechanically its of little benefit, he only just reached the Counsel for the first time last session. Nine levels of no mechanical benefit for a feat =/

I like the feat, a great deal in fact, you just might want to talk with your DM first about implementation.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. In fact, I'm not even sure why it is a feat. If you roleplay it right, the DM will likely say that you've earned the right to seek an audiance with an undying councilor.
