DMAC did a pic of an Eberron Drow, so of course it needs to get shared over here so we can all be jealous of his talent.

I mean, use it to enhance our own gaming experience, yeah, thats it...

Bah. Drizzt wishes he had a pimpin feathered cape like that.

The feathers don't fit with my 'nigh impossible to see them in their element sneaky jungle' drow I imagine. Otherwise good.

Yeah... you should have seen the Pickle Demon he drew after his character got assaulted by a demon from a pickle jar during our last adventure.

Bad food. :D

I dunno, he looks a bit too civilized for my tastes.

Geeze, there's a lot of criticism here for something the guy did just for fun. Looks pretty kick butt to me.

He does seem like a strange mix between a savage drow and a moderate drow.

As he should be.

Bugger that, gimme the savage, almost feral dark elves of Xen'drik.

It's just the player's character concept.

Drow range from the feral to 'nearly' civilized depending on the clan.

Or "extremely civilized but hostile" if you're a Sulatar.

Receiving criticism is one of the few ways to get better at what you're doing. So why shouldn't one criticize?

In general terms, the picture looks good. About the cape... well, there's camouflage against humanoids and camouflage against animals. For an example of the latter type, look at a tiger - yellow and black stripes in a green jungle. Still, if the mantle is designed to work against certain animals, there's still the problem the drow carries a scimitar, which is a weapon of war, not hunting.
I'd say the most probable scenario would be that this guy will soon enter some kind of ceremonial fight, not regular combat.

Or that he is some sort of high ranking warrior, with all the visual indicators that accompany his rank. After all, he's not going into combat, he's posing for a portrait. Of course he would put on the finest things he has, like his ceremonial feathered cloak, made from genuine <insert horribly deadly feathered creature here> feathers.

Or Cuotial. Oh Oh campaign idea coming. Cleric/paladin receives vision, great battel between a group of the few remaining cuotials and a tribe of Drow in Xen'Drik. Party is asked to travel there to find the cuotials and bring an end to the conflict. Perfect chance to introduce a Drow PC if you have one coming in also.

lol. If Drizzt was an Eberron drow he'd be like... a jungle ranger and instead of a cat he'd have a hugea** scorpion. He'd also have tatoo's... always cool.

He gained his levels after he escaped the underdark. Eberron drow are not matriarchial, they don't treat their men badly, are highly xenophobic of outsiders, which all around means he would have no reason to leave.

Drizzt would be some snot nosed teenager still trying to figure out how his spear worked in Eberron. :)

That's easy enough, take the pointy end and stick it in the other guy's fleshy bits.

IS THAT HOW IT WORKS!?

No wonder I can't kill anything with this...

He'd be going on a quest to learn how to sharpen his wooden spear to make it better, being sent by a rather amused clan weaponscrafter of course. :)

I like it, some things look a bit wonky but I'm sure that's intentional.
My only complaint is that we can't see all of DMAC's art. The *Expletive of your choice* hides them. *Mutters under breath*

How did you find it?

Feathers aside, I really like how you can tell his armor is made from chitin.

I would say that the schimtar was a giant weapon, since all items change shape to fit medium to huge beings which was the size ranges for the majority of giants and thier servants/slaves. So a weapon of power, because its magical, for a high level ranger blessed by the big V with a giant scorpion animal companion. I also recall feather serpents, seperate from the coutal, so that could be the source of his capes featers. It could also be another giant magic item. Since the images of giants from Xendrix borrow heavily from the Mayan and Aztec. Looks a like some Native American as well from the markings on his loincloth and inside of the cape. I think the whole image rocks.

Size And Magic Items

When an article of magic clothing or jewelry is discovered, most of the time size shouldn’t be an issue. Many magic garments are made to be easily adjustable, or they adjust themselves magically to the wearer. Size should not keep characters of various kinds from using magic items.

There may be rare exceptions, especially with racial specific items.
Armor and Weapon Sizes

Armor and weapons that are found at random have a 30% chance of being Small (01-30), a 60% chance of being Medium (31-90), and a 10% chance of being any other size (91-100).
So, it sounds like weapons and armor are fixed size while almost everything else good for everyone. :)

By default, all items resize. The exceptions are Arm and Armour, which is why there are actual rules for making weapons and armour bigger and smaller, but not rings, Wondrous Items, and so on.

For the record, DMAC actually did this work as a commission on my behalf. The cloak is semi-ceremonial, decorated with tilxin bird feathers. His appearance is intentionally meant to evoke the mesoamerican, with all his jewelry, clothing design, etc...

The shaman himself, Xilik, is a druid hailing from a tribe that skirts the territory near Stormreach. He's currently a character in an ongoing Eberron campaign, likely to become an NPC the next time I DM (I habitually convert old characters into contacts, npc's, cohorts and the like).

If you're curious enough, here's a little story about him, entitled 'Reverie' (http://zsander.livejournal.com/41454.html#cutid1).

A collection of the artwork done for me by DMAC from start to finish, resulting in the fine artwork you saw above, can be seen right here (http://pics.livejournal.com/zsander/).

(As for the scimitar and critter combination, I didn't really consider the possible connection to the big D of R.A.Salvatore fame/infamy, nor did I really care... I liked drow before I ever heard of RAS and his writing :P ).

I'm gonna read your story, good sir. Also, you shouldn't have to defend your PC's weapon selection to all the Drizzt haters. He's a Druid!! Unless your DM wants to houserule you some decent weapons, that's the least crappy of the crap he can wield. Not all drow are Drizzt knock-offs, not all wizards older than 40 are Elminster, so on and so forth goes the rant....;)

Very well done, Tethryn. A few questions: Do you intend to write more? If so, drop us a link so we can enjoy it. Also, is this story to follow Xilik's path in your ongoing campaign, or is it a seperate story all together?

Again, well done. It was quite good.

I'm glad the writing was well received... I wrote it after the first session of the campaign I am taking part in; it's supposed to sum up a little of the character's history before current events, and part of an ongoing storyline. I don't know if I'll add to it yet (I've been working on other writings lately), but if I ever do I'll happily set a link to it. :]
