| daganisoraan12-16-06, 03:00 AM | Lately i'm working on different concept of dragonmark related class and feats. Here's my last creation, a warlock-like class that use dragonmark as its main source of power. Dragonmark Adept They have been seen in the most remotes of Khorvaire, the dragonmark adept are rare individuals, and for a simple reasons, since they bear more than one dragonmarks. Dragonmarked houses hunt them, but still they appear again and again, bearing their dragonmark and using them with ease and power. The powers of dragonmark adept don't come from study or training, it comes from their parents. When a person that bear a true dragonmark mates with a bearer of an aberrant dragonmark, the offspring often gains tremendous power from the union. Taboo in the dragonmarked houses, and venered within the rare aberrant dragonmark communities, the dragonmark adept's possess great powers from the dragonmarks, able to manifest almost all of thems at the same time. Unkonw to most dragonmark adept the origin of their power come from the union of both dragonmarks, as one absorb the strength of the other, giving it almost infinite power. Race: Dragonmarked race only Hit Die: d8 Class Skills Appraise (Int), Bluff (Cha), Craft (Int), Disguise (Cha), Gather Information (Cha), Knowledge (arcana) (Int), Knowledge (history) (Int), Hide (Dex), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Sense Motive (Wis), Spellcraft (Int), Survival (Wis), and Use Magic Device (Cha). True dragonmark adept gains the skill related to its primary dragonmark as a class skill. Skill points at each level: 4 + intelligence modifier. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Dragonmark Adept gains proficiency with all simple weapons, light armor but not with shields. Unlike others creatures that have dragonmarks, a dragonmark adept incur arcane spell failure for his dragonmark spell-like abilites when he wear armor medium or heavy armor. Heritage: At 1st-level, a dragonmark adept must determine wich kind dragonmark he retain from his parents. If the dragonmark is aberrant, his selection of spell-like abilites comes from the aberrant dragonmark, lesser aberrant dragonmark, and greater aberrant dragonmark feats. At 16th-level, instead of gaining siberys spell-like abilites, he continue to gains more spell-like abilites from the previous grade. In replacement of the syberis uses he gain 1 extra uses for each of his grade at the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th-level. Unlike normal character that possess the aberrant dragonmark feats, an aberrant dragonmark adept doesn't have to make fortitude save when he use his spell-like abilities. If the dragonmark is true, the selection of spell-like abilities comes from any true dragonmark. At 1st-level a true dragonmark adept must choose one true dragonmark to be his primary dragonmark. The caster level is equal to the dragonmark adept class levels. Both kind of dragonmark adept learn spell-like abilities the following way (aberrant dragonmark adept don't learn spell-like abilities granted by siberys dragonmark since there is no aberrant siberys dragonmark). Because of the limited nature of the link, only general emotional content can be communicated. Because of this empathic link, the master has the same connection to an item or place that his companion does. Share Spells (Ex): At the dragonmark adept’s option, he may have any spell-like ability from his dragonmark he casts upon himself also affect his living dragonmark companion. The living dragonmark companion must be within 5 feet of her at the time of casting to receive the benefit. If the spell or effect has a duration other than instantaneous, it stops affecting the living dragonmark companion if the companion moves farther than 5 feet away and will not affect the living dragonmark again, even if it returns to the dragonmark adept before the duration expires. Additionally, the dragonmark adept may cast a spell with a target of "You" on his living dragonmark companion (as a touch range spell) instead of on herself. A dragonmark adept and his living dragonmark companion can share spells even if the spells normally do not affect creatures of the companion’s type (ooze). Enlarge (Sp): Once per day as a free action, at its master command, a living dragonmark companion can gain the same effects as those granted by the enlarge person spell. Evasion (Ex): If a living dragonmark companion is subjected to an attack that normally allows a Reflex saving throw for half damage, it takes no damage if it makes a successful saving throw. Telepathic Link (Su): The owner has a telepathic link with his living dragonmark companion out to a distance of up to 1 mile. The owner cannot see through the living dragonmark companion’s senses, but the two of them can communicate telepathically as if the living dragonmark companion were the target of a mindlink power manifested by the owner. Because of the telepathic link between a living dragonmark companion and its owner, the owner has the same connection to an item or place that the living dragonmark companion does. Multiattack: A living dragonmark companion gains a second attack with its slam attack, albeit at a -5 penalty. Deliver Touch Spells (Su): If the master is 3rd level or higher, a living dragonmark companion can deliver touch spells for him. If the master and the living dragonmark companion are in contact at the time the master casts a touch spell-like ability from his primary mark, he can designate his living dragonmark companion as the "toucher." The living dragonmark companion can then deliver the touch spell just as the master could. As usual, if the master casts another spell before the touch is delivered, the touch spell dissipates. Improved Evasion (Ex): When subjected to an attack that normally allows a Reflex saving throw for half damage, a living dragonmark companion takes no damage if it makes a successful saving throw and only half damage if the saving throw fails. | daganisoraan12-17-06, 08:24 PM | what are there spell like stuff? ben I don't really know at what you're refering to. But ill try to guess. The dragonmark spell-like abilities gained with this class are the same as those gained with the feats. If the character is a true dragonmark adept. At 1st, 6th, 11, and 16th, he must take a spell-like ability granted by its primary mark. At every other level (including 1st since he know 2 spell-like at that level) the character learn a spell-like ability granted by any mark. If the character is an aberrant dragonmark adept. At every levels the character learn a spell-like ability granted by one of the aberrant dragonmark feats. Both kind of dragonmark adept learn the following spell-like abilities (only true dragonmark learn aberrant spell-like abilities granted by siberys dragonmark since there is no aberrant siberys dragonmark) Spell-like abilites granted by least mark at 1st level to 5th, Spell-like abilites granted by lleast or lesser mark at 6th level to 10th, Spell-like abilites granted by least, lesser, or greater mark at 11th level to 15th, Spell-like abilites granted by least, lesser, greater, or siberys mark at 16th level to 20th. |
| Ecureuil_Diabolique06-17-07, 11:03 AM | This seems like a NPC class to me, at least power-wise. It doesn't seem like it'll stand up to much. From what I remember, the spell-like abilities from Dragonmarks aren't that great. I would probably add some more that each mark can get in addition to the ones in the Eberron campaign setting. |

I would probably add some more that each mark can get in addition to the ones in the Eberron campaign setting. well there are some new ones from the Dragonmarked book, Dragonmark Prodigy, Adept, and Visionary, add new SLA's to the regular dragonmarks, and then of course there's the lesser and greater Aberrant Dragonmark feats as well in that book. but you're right about it being mostly underpowered, it would need two good saves, if not three, and I would give it more skill points as well. |
| Ecureuil_Diabolique06-17-07, 05:20 PM | I'll have to check out the new spell-like abilities in Dragonmarked. I'm just glad that someone agrees with me that it's weak. It's a cool concept, and while it might not be proper for a base class, I would still like to see it work out so it's balanced. |
