The rules on this are a little vague - in feats it says all you need for a lesser or greater dragonmark is the appropriate race and dragonmarked house, and the lower dragonmark. However, it says that only Dragonmarked heirs can improve their dragonmark from least to lesser and greater. Which is it? |

There is a PrC if you so choose, which helps to not burn away those precious feats so fast, or if you can ignore the PrC and take them as individual feats, meeting all prerequisites of course (which is to say, the Least/Lesser/Greater progression and being of the appropriate race. I'm not sure where its says "only a Dragonmark Heir" but I would assume that's either specifically in the PrC text or it refers to anyone who is marked (feat or otherwise) as a Dragonmarked Heir. |

That PrC gives you lots of Dmark feats fast, but they are still just regular feats. It is only the Siberys mark that requries a PrC. |

It says Dragonmarked heirs can improve their dragonmark. The dragonmarks are feats, in terms of game mechanics, and as the others already said, you don't need levels in the PrC to get them (you just get them quicker than normal). However, the Dragonmarked Heir improve the caster level of their mark, gets additional uses per day and/or unlocks spell-like abilities. They get them earlier, use them more often, do more things, and they are more potent, than their fellow dragonmarked. The short description of the class resumes it all : "Harnesses the power of a dragonmark efficiently and effectively". |
