| DM_Dracophile05-31-07, 01:32 PM | Any setting-specific details/changes/additions you'd make? |
| Asok05-31-07, 01:42 PM | I'm going to be running an Eberron game soon and one of the PCs wants to play a Dread Necro. We talked about it and, even though I was a little reluctant to the idea at first, we came to the conclusion that a Karnathi mage is well suited for the role of a Dread Necro. With a little adjustment, it could work for the elves as well. Of course, if you want to make evil characters, there's all kind of options that it would fit well into - Like the Blood of the Vol. |
| Antioch05-31-07, 02:20 PM | Any character concept that is suited for a Necromancy-themed spellcaster can likewise be adapted to a dread necromancer fairly easily. As said above, elves from Aerenal and natives of Karnnath are well suited to this class. Characters that have a connection to Mabar would also work. The dread necromancer in my current Eberron game was a Karnnathi soldier trapped in Cyre during the Mourning and twisted by whatever happened there. |
| Burningspear05-31-07, 02:54 PM | What book are they written in? the Dread Necro's? |
| Antioch05-31-07, 03:10 PM | It is presented in Heroes of Horror as one of two new classes (the other being the archivist). |

| Vharuck05-31-07, 04:13 PM | Adapting classes to settings should be less mechanical (though the warlock's DR thing in another thread made sense), and more flavor. Really, the class is open-ended enough (character who really specializes in necromancy) to do whatever with it. However, you may be able to make the Dread Necromancer into the Sacred Necromancer by changing it to be Deathless-friendly. However, this would require a lot of mechanical working (touch for positive energy at will?!), and I don't have the book on me at the moment. |
| Edymnion05-31-07, 07:06 PM | My dread necro is an ex-karnnathi blood of vol worshipper. Not the evil true core of the blood, but the public face "death is bad and to be avoided at all costs". My eventual plans for her was to make her the anti-Vol, an epic level dread necromancer that gets in a final showdown one on one with Erandis d'Vol for control of the Blood of Vol. |

"I'm telling Argonessen!" |
| Cifer06-02-07, 06:59 AM | I could see the dread necros as being trained and employed by Karrnath when they got rid of the BoV connections - someone has to maintain, reinforce and command the undead, right? Without clerics (the BoV was kicked out and the Sovereign Host is probably not too keen on the role), that leaves only one base class: The Dread Necro. @Edy Have you got any plans on how to fight her yet? After all, you probably can't rebuke her and most Dread Necro spells are more pro-undead. |
| Darakhoranon06-02-07, 08:23 AM | Simple: Douse her with holy water...:D Seriously, though, IŽd also be interested in your plans, Edymnion. |
| Edymnion06-02-07, 03:09 PM | Well, first she'd have to find out that Vol exists, what she's truely doing, etc. As for how to fight her, I haven't thought about that, actually. The character is going to be a little general though (for those that aren't familiar with that term, "minion master" may be more recognizable, control a large number of minions to fight for you), so it would probably involve a large number of undead swarming her. Honestly, I would expect it to be more or less of a stalemate, since neither one of us would really have anything that would be super effective against the other. Nothing like a good old fashioned knock down drag out undead catfight! I'll pull her hair!... right out of her head... eww.... |
| Cifer06-03-07, 06:53 AM | so it would probably involve a large number of undead swarming her. or possibly a large number of undead swarming her large number of undead. since neither one of us would really have anything that would be super effective against the other. Well, she's a wizard, meaning at best two banned schools while you are entirely focused on necromancy... |
| Darakhoranon06-03-07, 08:46 AM | But that annoying "IŽll be back"-half dragon has to keep a low profile. Anything flashy, and sheŽll have armies of deathless and flights of dragons come knocking on her door. SheŽll probably forget about one megalomaniacal dread necromancer around then... Seriously, though, IŽd expect a couple of possible "allies" to lend a hand in the final showdown. After all, a certain vampire still has a few things to "discuss" with Erandis, one or two dragons might be inclined to help achieving a definite "case closed" on (born) half dragons, the flamers would almost certainly like to start another crusade... So, Edymnion, if you have any new ideas (what your dread necro will do/try to do etc.), please share them with us. |
| Edymnion06-03-07, 01:15 PM | Now thats actually a pretty sweet image. Battle all the way through, take a few pot shots at Vol, let her do her "You don't stand a chance against me, girl!" monologue, etc. Then just simply yell back "Maybe not, but thats why I brought friends!" Lift up a one use magical item to open a Gate behind me as several Great Wyrms fly out of it, Kaius comes charging through, some epic level Deathless... Basically, my goal was merely to get *TO* Erandis, not to beat her in one on one combat. Just get in, and open the door to everyone *ELSE* that wants a piece of her. |
| Darakhoranon06-07-07, 05:02 PM | In that case, IŽll send my familiar with a special crystal to you. Just throw it into the air when you start your charge (it will orbit around you like an ioun stone) or wear it above your clothes on a chain or something. So, could you tell me to which place I should send Ixenkethend? And to whom sheŽll deliver the crystal? |
