Drow in Sharn? [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-03-08, 08:15 PM Hey, my apologies if this isn't the right place, but I don't know where else to ask...

I'm working on a background for a character in an epic campaign. This campaign crosses boundries from FR to Eberron to who knows what other settings...

Basically my question is pretty simple - How would most people in Sharn react to a drow? The drow of course will be faerunian, but will have taken a portal by mistake to wind up in Eberron... Also, how would Sharn react to the presence of a new dragon (Deep Dragon)?

04-03-08, 08:57 PM He'd be a curiosity. Sharn is the gateway to Xendrik. Drow come from Xendrik but they're xenophobic and reclusive.

If the Dragon was dumb enough to let it's presence be known? Most likely nothing provided it behaved itself.

Anyways, this Faerun-Eberron (or Faerron,) campaign sounds like all kinds of wrong. And I don't just mean "Aw, you farted in the elevator" wrong I mean "My mind is literally devouring itself" wrong. The two settings are almost exact opposites. In a regular Eberron setting it would be entirely sane for a 'civilized' Xen'drik drow to be in Sharn (it would be like a native African in London though, so expect a few weird looks.) But I'd venture to say an Underdark, egotistical, Drizzit-esque drow in Sharn would probably caused the Mourning all over again destroying all or most of Breland. But, that's just my opinion, its his(your) campaign, you can do whatever crazy **** you want.

04-05-08, 02:12 PM I have played a drow beguiler in Sharn, and he was great! One of my favorite characters. In fact, he is now a standing NPC in all of my campaigns. A famous master inquisitive.

As to the Faerunian drow in sharn....well, as long as he wasn't trying to enslave everyone, he would be fine.

04-06-08, 01:38 AM My personal opinion would be that most people in Sharn wouldn't look twice.

This is a place where humans, dwarves, gnomes, elves, halflings, half-orcs, orcs, changlings, shifter, kalashtar, warforged, inspired, goblins, hobgolins, bugbears, gnolls, orge, orcs, minotaur, gargoyles, planetouched, kenku, kobolds, sahuagin, troglodytes, locathah.... move about the same streets (in theory)

Add to that the number of those races that have things like Grafts that alter their apearance. Consider that a good number of Elves ritualistically tatoo their bodies with a black and blones motif....

People would be less apt notice a drow because its a black elf with white hair but rather likely its manner of dress. That might draw attention. The majority of people would wonder where the elf is from, some would wonder what the hell that elf did to itself to make itself black like that... scholars, sailors and those familiar with Xen'drik would probably be surprised to see a drow in Sharn... but unless the person personally had a friend killed by drow would likely be curious rather than hostile.

But that's just my 2 crowns. Khorvaire has a lot going on and drow don't even register on the majority of people's radars.

The book Sharn city of towers notes that a drow would be left alone by the law so long as they didn't break it.

i mean the fact that noone even elves dont attack him might suprise him quite a bit, likewise so will flying towers and lightning rails all the other eberron goodies

04-06-08, 07:22 PM so are you wanting to play a faerunian drow in sharn or a xen-drik drow? Either way there are no racial hatred for the drow in Sharn so it should be fine

04-09-08, 03:59 PM My Eberron campaign is centered on the drow, and the party consists of two FR drow, one Xen'drik drow, and one warforged. The FR drow are two of Gromph's sons from Menzoberranzan who were sent via a portal to recon the place and the drow there for something Gromph is working on. They keep insisting they're still gathering data, but most of that data involves what life in a tropical paradise is like where the girls dress scantily when they're not in armor and will actually talk to you. They proved themselves worthy to the tribe (as the warforged did, but for some reason he had an easier time of it), and the ribe considers them Xen'drik and will put up a fight should Gromph decide to forcibly recall his boys. After all, they're tribesmen, complete with tattoos.

The party has been to Sharn. More than the citizen's reaction, I paid attentino to the drow recation to the city. The Menzo drow felt right at home among tall buildings and dark alleys, but their local friend, Gennex, had never seen anything so tall, not even in the giants' ruins. The concept of private property was somewhat new to him and led to several run-ins, but for the most part the drow in Sharn were a curiosity, sort of like seeing a tribeman from the Congo walking down the streets of any RW city in full tribal dress. I figured the people of Sharn were a bit worldly and somewhat jaded.

04-10-08, 01:53 AM Jaded is the perfect word to describe the people of Sharn. It would take something pretty darn exotic to phase them, and I don't think any humanoid would count.

Also I think that there are drow in Sharn already (part of that "other" percent) so people would just think that they are part of that group, which might be fun, to try and make friends with some other drow who are not FR.

The dragon would freak people out because its a dragon. But there are shadow dragons in Eberron now. The thing is that people "never" see dragons so they would be fascinated and some what scared.

Just have fun and try not to kill people (and try not to kill Elien hes nice and has a kid to take care of).

04-10-08, 03:19 PM A drow in Sharn would definitely be a curiosity, especially to the scholars of Morgrave University, his dark features and elven appearance may be of interest to House Thuranni, then of course (since you stipulated he's from Faerun) the fact that he is a planar traveller, which means he could be related somehow to the draconic prophecies and have all sorts of high level villians (excuse me, heros) after him.

04-11-08, 01:07 PM FR drow are very methodical, so they would try to discern as much as they could before making any hostile actions... or just simply committing them in very secretive ways being the spawn of Gromph. Perhaps they may actually like it there, perhaps even thrive... maybe teach Chult or other languages they know to people just to mix things up a bit. Throw in a bit of Mystra's magic and bring their gods to a new land... or they may just be fine. Like others have stated, The people of Sharn are a jaded lot.

04-11-08, 07:44 PM Oh, my FR drow love Xen'drik. For them it's like being sent on a spy mission to the Island of Scantily Clad and Very Friendly Masseuses and Stewardesses. Their reports back to Gromph detail only the hazards of the place, like dinosaurs, shifting landscapes, etc. They keep the "tropical paradise" part to themselves. Only briefly did "Ol' Grumpy" get a glimpse of Antroos' girlfriend when she popped into view (a little sloshed) in the crystal ball and asked "Ooh, who's the cutie-pie?" Never having been called "cutie-pie" before in his life, Gromph lost the connection and the crystal ball went dark. It was one of our more light-hearted sessions.

As for Sharn, they enjoy going there from time to time, which they do when Gromph actually manages to get orders through to them, but they usually can't wait to get back to Xen'drik. I'm trying to get them to Sarlona, but they keep wriggling out of it, crippling my plans right at the brink of success. Grrrrrr...!
