Description

The Eldeen Leopard is 4 feet long plus a 2 foot long tail, providing excellent balance and acrobatic grace. Most are mottled black, appearing solid black at first glance but showing patterns in just the right light or upon close examination. Weighing in at 220-250 lbs, it is not the largest of the great cats but don’t let that fool you. These are among the best of nature’s hunters, at home in the woods or warm plains, they are most comfortable among the Druids and Rangers of the Eldeen Reaches on Eberron. They hunt mainly during the dark hours but are often seen during the day by those with sharp eyes. The Eldeen Leopard is a territorial creature, typically claiming 3-5 square miles of land. Druids and Rangers of the Reaches choose the Leopard if they wish to hunt aberrations or remove unwanted visitors to the Reaches. The Eldeen Leopard is often chosen by Balinor, God of Nature, to serve him by serving his Druids and Rangers of the Eldeen Reaches.

Combat:

Eldeen Leopards prefer to ambush prey. Their method of choice is to wait on an overhanging tree branch or other elevated position and dropping onto prey. If this is not possible, the leopard will stalk its prey until it is vulnerable, then it pounces. In both instance, the leopard attempts to make a grapple and tear at it’s victim with Rake attacks. Rarely would a leopard charge across open terrain unless it is forced by circumstance. A leopard will charge through forest after fleeing prey, using a sudden burst of speed to quickly overcome and take down similarly sized animals or smaller. In times of hunger, Eldeen Leopard have been known to hunt and eat unwelcome humanoids.

Improved Grab: With a successful bite attack, the Leopard may attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity.

Pounce: An Eldeen Leopard may make a full attack with a +2 bonus to attack and damage on a successful jump check DC 18. This attack may be made from any kind of cover and gains an additional +2 to attack and damage if made as a surprise action.

Rake: Once a Leopard has made a successful grapple check, he may attack with both rear claws with an attack bonus of +10 melee and do 2D4+3 points of damage.

Great Leap: On a successful Jump Check (DC 18), the Eldeen Leopard may charge up to it’s full run speed and make a Pounce attack up to 15 feet past it full movement speed. When jumping he retains his Dexterity bonus.

Improved Grapple: Racial Bonus. +4 bonus on Grapple checks. No attack of opportunity.

Feral Rage: See Special Abilities.

Special Abilities:

Feral Rage: If an Eldeen Leopard makes at least three kills within six rounds, he will fly into a Feral Rage that will last until all enemies are neutralized or he is brought out of it by other methods. He is unable to differentiate between friend or foe, and will attack all within 20 feet except his companion. He may rage any number of times per day, but the longer he does, the weaker he will become. Every two rounds that he is feral, he will lose one point of Constitution until he reaches zero and dies. He may regain these points at a rate of 2/day or through a Restoration spell. A character may make a Handle Animal check of DC 30 to bring him out of his rage, or cast a Charm Animal spell.
+4 Strength
+4 Constitution
+4 Morale bonus on all Saves
-2 AC (While in a feral rage, an Eldeen Leopard does not concentrate on avoiding damage; only inflicting it.)

Woodland Stride: The Eldeen Leopard may move through dense underbrush or minor obstructions such as rock piles or fallen trees without penalty. Magical impediments such as an Entangle spell still apply.

Improved Evasion: The Eldeen Leopard is very agile allowing it to dodge even magical attacks with ease. With a successful Reflex save against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, it takes none.

Lightning Reflexes: Swift, agile, and almost acrobatic, the Eldeen Leopard is without a doubt, difficult to hit.
+2 Reflex Save

Stealthy: The Leopard receives a +2 bonus on Move Silently checks and Hide checks.
(+4 bonus to Hide checks in darkness or shadow)

Run: An Eldeen Leopard may run at 5x its normal speed without losing it’s Dexterity bonus to AC and without penalty over or through rough terrain. A jump check after a running start gains a +4 bonus.

Jump: Eldeen Leopards receive a +7 racial bonus to Jump checks.

Eldeen Leopard as Animal Companion
A Druid may select an Eldeen Leopard at level Five, a Ranger may at level 10.
An Eldeen Ranger may select an Eldeen Leopard as a second animal companion at class level 4, if his first animal companion is also an Eldeen Leopard. This is due to the Leopard’s skill and willingness to hunt as a team. Both Leopards will respect the Eldeen Ranger as they Alpha leader and will coordinate hunts and attacks with him. (They must be male and female. Two of one gender will not get along because of their territorial nature.)

A Druid or Ranger may summon no more than two Eldeen Leopards as the spell “Summon Nature’s Ally IV” (He may summon more than 2, but as noted above, they are territorial and will just as likely attack each other as they will the enemy.)

Whaa?

A ranger 4 can have 2, but a ranger 1 can only have 1?

An Eldeen Ranger Ranger can be druid or ranger...it's a prestige class in the ECS...or are you saying something else I'm not getting?

The Eldeen Ranger PrC requires the Favored Enemy class ability, so a multiclassed druid could get in, yes.

Next time, place "PrC" beside the Eldeen Ranger to avoid confusion; I initially thought you were just talking about a ranger from the Eldeen, as many animal companions are restricted by areas.
