| StoneyDM06-09-07, 04:03 PM | Hope I'm asking this properly - new to Eberron & DMing. Considering history in Eberron, potential could exist for female Giant (master?) to have mated (bred?) with elf. (Assume before the fall of the giants) Specifically, an eldrich giant with the assist of mage brreding. Jump to present Eberron (post-war) timeline, and consider stats for the descendants of such union(s). Would we call them Giant-touched elves? I am considering allowing a character of this type within a high (18 to epic) level campaign. The intent would be a more varied past and greater use of magic. Any thoughts? Does something already exist that I have not seen? Thanks for any help. -StoneyDM 6/09/07 |
| Shady31406-09-07, 04:46 PM | Couldn't you just use a half-giant with elven features? |
| Edymnion06-09-07, 05:10 PM | Yes, either use a normal elf with max height/weight, or a normal half-giant with low height and min weight, and describe them as having elfin features. There's no reason to make a new race for something that is basically just flavor text. |
| The White Sorcerer06-09-07, 08:44 PM | There's no reason to make a new race for something that is basically just flavor text. Also, rare/unique and, more importantly, really gross (pun unintended). |
| Edymnion06-09-07, 10:27 PM | Of course, I'm also the guy that thinks a Generic Class game with only Human mechanics would be a load of fun. Warrior, Skillsman, Spellcaster, with Human mechanics, using Point Buy. Thats it, everything else is pure roleplaying. You want an elven ranger, you multiclass Warrior with Skillsman with a bit of Spellcaster thrown in, put your stat points into Dexterity, and use the bonus feat on Alertness for those sharp elven senses, and roleplay the rest of it. So I may not be the best person to ask. :D |
| StoneyDM06-14-07, 01:39 AM | Thanks, guys ... Chose to hold games at home for our oldest son. He plans to go Army next year so until then it means more quality time with him. Picked Eberron because he likes WF, and trying to help him surprise his more experienced gaming friends; they're accustomed to grand scale (pc fire-giants, praying mantis mounts, wishes, deck o'many things...) so I have big shoes to fill as their DM :) Yes, flavor, as you put it, is what i am after, and i read/post because i can learn from anyone. (the unofficial artificers' guide is a great example) Okay: an oversized, outcast from elfin family of survivors with a dark, hard to conceal past. Should make life as adventurer more appealing? Throw in skin tones and arcane markings like the eldritch giant (deviant ancestor), some spell casting levels and feats, and maybe giant immunity to spells affecting only humanoids... Does this sound exotic at all ? Playable? Any more suggestions, and was there any better place for posting this ? thanks again |

| Perun06-16-07, 04:57 AM | If you have access to Forgotten Realms accessories, the Jotunbrud feat from Races of Faerūn gives certain (but not all) benefits of the powerful build racial feature. It also makes the character larger. It's a human regional feat, and thus can be taken only at 1st level. Regards. Edit: The description of the feat from Candlekeep (www.candlekeep.com)'s Feats of the Realms (http://www.candlekeep.com/library/articles/feats_a-m.htm) section: Damaran or Illuskan human; Regions: Damara, the North; Benefit: Treated as Large when a modifier based on size on an opposed roll. Also, considered Large when determining whether a monster's special attacks based on size affect character |
| BrotherDog06-16-07, 06:26 AM | Actually this could be a good way to introduce Voadkyn into 3e. Being they're more like giant elves. |

Now I need to go convince the DM to let me re-arrange my feats so I can take it. Gonna have to talk him into letting me take Adm Body as a fighter bonus feat though... |
| StoneyDM06-25-07, 08:17 PM | Our library has some of the FR materials; now i'll have to check them out, too. (i had just assumed each campaign setting was basically exclusive and hadn't yet considered incorporating feats or other aspects... Perhaps go easy there, as it could get wild, and yet - oh, the flavor possibilities) As to UA, bought this weekend :) We are going to have alot of fun with that one! It looks like "Bloodlines" are just what i needed. THANKS. (Still, among the giants there, i saw no Eldritch ... Might settle on Titan and rely on other class levels for rest of magic aspects.) Now i'm even considering the racial paragons UA also offered, and the thought that allowing gestalt-use could up the ante in our game while (maybe) bringing ECLs for our PCs toward more Eberron-esque norms for my power gamers. Wow, some quite dizzying choices in there! --> thanks again everyone <-- -Stoney |
