| Demon_Paladin12-30-07, 07:41 PM | I recently bought the XPH nd have been trying to fit them in. The only ones I've thought of so far are the Half-giants, the Gith and the Elans. I really want to find a place for the Thri-kreen as well. The giants, I've made elf/giant hybrids that breed as a true race on the northern side of Xen'drix (I replaced the +2 againest fire effects with immunity to sleep and +2 againest enchantments). The Gith, live in the Astral plane and The plane of Chaos, respectively, and have fought off Xoriat, creating a deep hatred of it's creatures, paticularly Mind Flayers. The Elans, I'm still a little foggy on. I was considering introducing them, and possibly the Maenads, as living weapons created from modified humans during the Last War. The Thri-Kreen, I've got no clue, but they're just so dang cool. So, How have you fit the XPH races into your Eberron? |
| Belabras12-30-07, 08:53 PM | Well, there's always the official inclusion notes in Player's Guide to Eberron, Secrets of Xen'drik, and Secrets of Sarlonna respectively. That said, I rather like your take on Half-giants. That makes a bit more sense in terms of Eberron's history. |
| DM_Kelaos12-30-07, 08:55 PM | Personally I haven't incorporated them yet, but here's my thoughts: So about what you said: The Gith part sounds cool. I'm not really liking the elf/giants (probably 'cause I like elves so much) but I think it'd probably work. maybe give them Immunity to sleep and +2 to fire? The Thri-Kreen are definately cool (though I'd advise against them as PCs, unless the others are very open to other cultures or an all Thr-Kreen party). There's a lot of things you could do with them, such as say they live underground in Riedra on Sarlona, under the deserts and that's why the Inpsired haven't bothered with them. Or they don't live in Riedra they live in another part of Sarlona or on Khorvaire and are underground in their hives or in mountains or deep in the forests. And either everyone ignores them as "bugs" or no one has found them perhaps? The Elans and Maenads as living weapons would make sense, but it's also kinda wierd since they just had the warforged developed I don't think they could've gone from metal men to flesh. (Unless they thought that flesh was too weak for war at first?) Instead perhaps they could've been mutants at first (like the Lycanthropes maybe?) and have fully developed seperately from Humans. Hope these idea help, and good luck with Psionics! |
| Amaril12-30-07, 10:45 PM | I've personally set Elan as a culture of Sarlonan humans who use their transformed aberrant abilities to fight against the aberrations of Xoriat and Khyber and more easily survive the wilds of western Khorvaire. |
| Hellcow12-30-07, 11:02 PM | The Gith, live in the Astral plane and The plane of Chaos, respectively, and have fought off Xoriat, creating a deep hatred of it's creatures, paticularly Mind Flayers. As a side note, my personal take is that the Gith failed to fight off Xoriat. Their original world - another world on the material plane - was destroyed (possibly absorbed into Xoriat), and the Gith of the Astral and Kythri are descendants of the refugees from that destruction. The mind flayers may actually be transformed Gith, just as the Dolgrims are transformed hobgoblins. Thus, mind flayers are an abomination - a living reminder of their failure and loss of their world - and this fuels the Gith-flayer vendetta. |

I'm honored that I got a response from Hellcow, especially so quickly. At DM_Kelaos: For the Elans and Maenads, I was thinking of some kind of crazy underground thing happening in the present, ala Fullmetal Alchemist. And It's not like they're grown from nothing, they used to be normal humans. I'm going for a FuMA/Weapon X feel. |
| skrap-san12-31-07, 04:32 AM | i have nothing to add myself, but i thought this (http://www.coveworld.net/eberron/conversions-xph.html) website could help the discussion. |

They're an indigenous species to Khorvaire, perhaps an odd remnant of the Demon Wars that didn't get stuck in Khyber like all the other abominations. They're nomadic, like the halflings, and you could either have them friends of or competitors of said halflings. I lean toward the former. |
| DM_Kelaos12-31-07, 12:56 PM | The Talenta Plains Idea sounds good. And yeah, the Fullmetal Alchemist (Great anime & manga!) feel would be good, I now have a much better understanding of what you meant and think it works a lot better than I originally thought! Good luck! |
| Demon_Paladin01-02-08, 01:00 AM | The Talenta Plains idea isn't bad. Now what about the Dromites, Duergar and Xephs? I"m lost on those... |
| Nexusdragon01-02-08, 02:46 PM | Thri-kreen on the Talenta Plains is cool, but I always envisioned them in Menechtarun. I know that is in line with some published sources, but the dromite would fit perfectly as colonies within the wastes in giant stone "hives." The catch would come from the fact that the kreen and the dromite have a common ancestry that diverged and the thri-kreen are the savage and primordial cousins of a peaceful desert race. The xephs, as written, come from a land of jungles so it wouldn't be too hard to envision them in Xendrik's forests or a little farther south. Duergar I would imagine would be deep in Khyber underneath Khorvaire. |
| Demon_Paladin01-12-08, 02:05 PM | I came up with a very specific use for Elans earlier. They were comissioned by High Cardinal Krozen:emp: and created in Sarlona in an under-the-table deal 15 years ago. They will aid the Knights of Thrane in defending the nation and in conquests abroad. They'll be armed with light crossbows and in white studded leather with helms that hid most of their faces. I hope you see where I"m going with this... I've always seen a similarity between Jedi/Sith and Paladin/Blackguard. The similarities are so obvious my players won't relize it until the "Storm Troopers" start blasting them with arrows. Now, If only I can fit in a human Ex-paladin/Blackguard covered with consruct grafts and clad in demon armor and a rogue Elan Justiciar. :fett: |

What connection does Eberron and its various planes have to other material planes? Were the Gith from a previous incarnation of Eberron itself, or are there multiple material planes that could be accessed somehow from the planes? Would any Gith scholars have information on that? |

I don't know if you intend these as rhetorical questions, or if you're asking me directly. If the latter... well, that's really something for each individual DM to decide. You could posit the existence of multiple material planes - parallel Eberrons, with Xoriat linked to each one. You could say that there are other inhabited planets within the material plane (which was actually the direction I was taking with my original Gith story - note that I said "another world in the material plane", not "another material plane"). If this is the case, the question is whether Eberron holds a special place in the plane - if there is any truth to the story of the progenitors, in which case the reason Eberron and its moons are significant is because it is essentially the center of the universe. You could decide that there are no other planets, but that the moons support intelligent life, and that the Gith inhabited the 13th moon - the assumption that the disappearance of the moon was tied to Dal Quor is in fact a mistake, as it was an attack from Xoriat that destroyed it. ... and so on. Barring a Planes of Eberron book, it seems unlikely that you'll see any sort of official statement on the matter. |

Is your brain like...a giant field of galactic energy focused into an extradimensional space the size of a human head? Because all of your ideas are molten awesome, bubbling into my head and searing my brainmeats. |

| kelvinaw27301-13-08, 12:59 PM | Player's Guide to Eberron has many of your questions answered: Elan are humans with Quori criminals (exactly what a quori has to do to be a criminal and not a rebel like those in the kalashtar is not clear) imprisoned in their minds. The process of imprisoning creates the Elan, usually traumatized with no memory of who they were. It implies that the Inspired do this, but perhaps the Kalashtar do it with volunteer humans to take Quori out of the fight and weaken the Dreaming Dark. Half-Giants live in Adar, descendants of a giant colony from Xen'drik. Xephs also have their Rift in Adar, and both are allied with the kalashtar of Adar against the Quori. Love the ideas about the Gith and Flayers! |
