I'm starting a new campaign in Xendrik, and one of my players is going to play a psion. He also likes the Dragon Prophesier PrC (MoEb), so what I've done is come up with a psionic equivalent PrC that I'm calling the Dragon Seer.

It seems to me that the most logical patron for such a character would be a gem dragon. My initial idea is that the gem dragons live either in the Ring of Siberys (rather than the Inner Planes) and consider themselves the true heirs or Siberys, a claim which the dragons of Argonnesson dispute.

I need help figuring out what motivates gem dragons in Eberron and how their view of the prophecy differs (or overlaps with) the true dragons.

One idea that strikes me is that the gem dragons are more interested in Sarlona than their brethren and keep watch over the Inspired. One reason for this is that the gem dragons have a theory that the dragon marks are somehow connected to the plane of Dal Quor. If one studies the emergence of the marks in history, a pattern begins to emerge:

1) c. -3200 The Mark of Hospitality appears in what is the Talenta plains (along with Marks of Death and Shadow). The appearance of these marks precedes the arrival of Lhazaar on Khorvaire c. -3000 by approximately 200 years. What force decided to lay out the welcome mat (Hospitality) for the immigrants from Sarlona?

2) c. -2600 The Mark of Sentinel appears among humans of pre-Galifar Karrnath. This corresponds to the time that House Vol is destroyed in Aerenal and Phiarlan relocates to Khorvaire. Some believe that the mark of Sentinel emerged as a direct response to the perceived threat of elven invasion.

3) c. -1800 The Mark of Handling appears in the Eldeen Reaches. This corresponds with the Kalashtars’s arrival in Sarlona as they flee the persecution of the Quori - who have manipulated bloodlines to breed appropriate vessels for their alien minds. The parallel between the emerging house of handling (which specializes in the creation of magebred animals) and the Quori's manipulation of living creatures in Sarlona to produce Inspired vessels is striking.

4) c. -1500 the Quori begin the conquest of Sarlona by breeding mortal vessels capable of channeling their spirits (as noted above, the Mark of Handling was the last mark - historically speaking - to appear). This coincides with the second wave of humans who set out for Khorvaire’s shores from Sarlona and the emergence of the Mark of Detection that appears among half-elves of pre-Thrane. Moreover, the dragonmarked houses launch the War of the Mark at this time: did the war happen explicitly because the Mark of Detection emerged (and thus, the ability to detect aberrant and mixed marks), or did the Mark of Detection appear to weed out any Quori that might intrude on Khorvairian soil?

Anyway, I'd appreciate comments, suggestions, and other ideas for incorporating gem dragons in Eberron.
