Gnome Dragon Disciple [Archive] - Wizards Community

One of my players, who's also my best friend and roomate, decided to play a Gnome Bard in my campaign, nothing against it, but he envisionned maybe to take the Dragon Disciple PrC when the time arise. He's probably going to be a part of house Sivis, but without any marks that manifested yet. This could actually be fun for me especially if I can link a cool back story to the why he's got Draconic blood in his family tree + the fact he's part of a Dragonmarked house.

An ideas or suggestions that could help us do a cool and fun background to fill the gaps? Thanks guys!

Well Sorcerers are supposed to be more common amongst the Dragomarked bloodlines (even those that don't have a mark), and there's the connection between Sorcerers and Dragons' blood. The fact that the Dragons seem so interested in the phenomenon suggests there's some relationship between the 2.

Perhaps, at the same time the player's character begins taking levels in Dragon Disciple, he can also start taking the Dragonmark feats.

Perhaps he's part of the prophecy? If Vol finds out theres another Dragonmarked individual with obvious draconic features roaming around, she might consider him worthy of interest. Or maybe he's interested in the languages, culture, and lore of the Dragons in days past or their current ways of life on Argonessen. Or maybe he was interested in the culture of the Seren barbarians and lived with them for a time to study them and took on their reverence for Dragons (Gnomes are renowned shipwrights/sailors, love knowledge, and have a knack for breaking communications barriers).

08-16-07, 06:14 PM Well yeah last night around 3am when we were creating his character I discussed with him the possible ties with the Dragonmark feat and he sounded interested.

The Blood of Vol part you mentionned just made something click in my mind, I had a random plot generated on the WoTC website mentionning the Blood of Vol with genetics of a PCs, but I think I might use this and I'll introduce this story arch as the story unfolds. Might be great! I don't possess EoTLQ yet, but I was kinda interested in getting it when the time came (they're starting at lvl 1 I still have plenty of time hehe), anything I could mix in with him and the BoV?

I suggest you slightly change a few parts of this bard´s background:
He is a gnome, a member of House Sivis, with an interest in dragons. He spends quite some time digging up facts and rumors about dragons, their abilities, their plans, their (supposed) conspiracies, etc. While he´s at it, he either makes contact with a dragon (who becomes some kind of mentor/employer) or he stumbles upon ancient rituals/spells/whatever that increases one´s power and make draconic aspects appear on the one in question - if this is a wanted side-effect of the ritual/spell/etc. or due to some mistake/imperfection, is for you to decide.
In effect, instead of being of an unusual (draconic) bloodline, your gnome "artificially" acquires draconic traits. This way you avoid the problems that crop up if you say "My daddy is a dragon!" while still getting "half-dragon" tagged onto your character. ANd all the plot hooks that would fit into it...

Whole flights of Dragons descending upon anything is pretty rare in Eberron.

The House of Vol was wiped out by both Dragons and Elves, and largely because they're both bitter enemies, and the union was made against the wishes of either side.

Half-Dragons still exist in Eberron, most notably in Qubarra, where Rhashaak keeps a number of Half-Dragons as gaurds and aids. I'll look and see if I can find any info on Half-Dragons amongst the Seren Barbarians.

Being constantly near a dragon, working for one or something like that is still possible (and logical) in Eberron. And if that changes you into a half-dragon? Well, you´re obviously a favored servant of a true dragon...
So instead of accessing your bloodline, you ACQUIRE draconic aspects from an "external" source. It´s a minor difference and one that´s only fluff, but that´s how I understand the view of dragons on the subject.
