I'm working on a character for a gestault game. Artificer/Sorc that starts play with the Construct Graft "Mighty Arm". (Story line tie in. Only 1 arm is a construct arm) I've always liked the golems in the MM and the ones that EBH brings out are neat. Just having a heck of a time finding a PrC based on their creation. HELP! ^_^ |

Sorry but I think your out of luck if you don't just forgo any PRC as stick with the artificer levels. They're very good for Homonoculi but like any other "spellcaster" you would have to take the golem making feat. (I think from one of the monster manuels. I cannot remember which.) |

There is the effigy master from CArc that focuses on effigies, a new form of construct. Beyond that make your own or stick with Artificer, it remains the best creation class around. And its Craft Construct, by the way. |
| PiccaloJr04-18-07, 03:53 PM | Well I found a book called Golemcraft 101. You still have to be a fairly high level caster to toss most of that stuff down though, but still not a bad buy. On the other hand I did find what I needed. The Techsmith PrC from Faiths and Pantheons (Faerun). A few small adjustments to it and it's PERFECT for Artificers who want to go the golem/construct route. Now I know that some think Eberron and Faerun or like Fire and a wagon full of Alchemist fire, but hear me out here. ^^ For those not in familiar with it, you get a free construct companion that will fight for you. You can upgrade him and out fit him with weapons and the like. You also get better at crafting items. In addition to that you learn to really put the hurt on constructs in general. The only issue we saw with it was the Bombs thing. Eberron doesn't have smokepowder like Faerun so we just swapped that ability out for an ability to create more effective golem/constructs. If anyone is interested I'll post the write up we did on it. |
| kaionon04-18-07, 04:20 PM | The class sounds like a good idea in general, though i'm not sure swapping the bombs out is really needed is it? Instead of gun powder you could easily swap it for some other explosive substance such as a thickened alchemist fire that needs a spark to be set off or something along those lines. It's really just the flavor in all right? The reason there is no gunpowder in Eberron is because as far no one felt the need to create it. Magic can easily do more then gunpowder could and a magewright with an eternal wand is much more cost effective. :D |

In Eberron, had gunpowder ever been invented, they'd have thought, "That was pathetic. All that time and I get less than what I can make with a simple prestidigitation spell? I'm working on something else now." It wouldn't be worth the time, money, and effort to develop it so that it could compete in the world with magic. |

In Faerun, Gond gave the Gnomes/Dwarves the secrets of Smokepowder. So it is fitting that this PrC has the explosive creation that others normally don't get. When adapting it to Eberron, and more specifically to the character I'm making, we used this ability at that level instead: At 9th level the Techsmith's creations are sturdy and durable. His/Her constructs have an additional +2 AC (natural armor), +2 Hit Dice and 10 extra hit points. That is the normal 7th level ability gained by the Golem Master PrC from Kingdoms of Kalamar. I do see your point that it would be a simple matter to maintain the PrC as is, but it just didn't fit our specific needs. Also, as far as making it alchemist fire, Techsmith doesn't have any Craft (alchemy) prereqs. So I dunno how that one would apply. Not saying yours was a bad idea, just my thoughts. ^_^ |
