This PrC stems from this (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=12584498#post12584498) conversation on the Magic, Deities & Cosmology boards. I felt it would be more appropriate to post the class here, however. This is very similar to the Heir of Siberys PrC found in the ECS pg. 80

Heir of Tarkanan

Hit Dice: d6.

Requirements
To qualify to become an heir of Tarkanan, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.

Race: Any dragonmarked race
Skills: 15 ranks in any two skills
Feats: Any Aberrant Dragonmark
Special: A character who has the Least, Lesser, Greater or Siberys Dragonmark feat cannot enter this prestige class. Also, once a character gains any levels in this class, he can't adopt the dragonmark heir PrC.

Class Skills
Skill Points per Level: 2 + Int modifier
Any skill that is a class skill for one of an heir of Tarkanan's other classes is a class skill for his heir of Tarkanan class as well.

BAB: 3/4 (as cleric)
Base Saves: All good
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: None

Class Abilities:
Level --- Abilities --- Spells/day (bonus feat)
1 --- Additional Action Points, Bonus Aberrant Feat --- (none)
2 --- Tarkanan Mark --- +1 level of existing class (or bonus feat)
3 --- Improved Tarkanan Mark --- +1 level of existing class (or bonus feat)

Class Features:
Additional Action Points: At 1st level, a heir of Tarkanan's maximum action points per level increases by 2.

Bonus Aberrant Feat: At 1st level, the heir of Tarkanan's aberrant mark begins to form into something much more powerful and much more terrible. The heir gains a bonus feat, chosen from the list below. All of these feats are found in the Dragonmarked supplemental book. The heir must still meet any requirements for the feat:
Ashbound Mark, Dragonmark Fist, Dragonmark Rage, Eldritch Dragonbane, Eldritch Mark, Evoker's Mark, Greater Aberrant Dragonmark, Lesser Aberrant Dragonmark, Mark of Madness, Mark of Resilience, Mark of Vengeance, Mark of Vermin, Mark of Xoriat, Mighty Dragonmark, Nightborn Dragonmark, Ward of Khyber, Winter's Mark

Spells per day: At 2nd and 3rd levels, an heir of Tarkanan who previously had levels in a spellcasting class gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in that class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would normally gain. This essentially means that he adds one level to his levels in one other spellcasting class, then determines spells per day and caster level accordingly.

If the characcter has no spellcasting classes, he gains a bonus feat of his choice instead. He must meet the requirements for the feat to select it.

Tarkanan Mark:At 2nd level, the heir of Tarkanan manifests the full Tarkanan Mark and gains a powerful spell like ability. The spell like ability is usable once per day. The character must choose one of the spells listed below:
Antimagic Ray*, Avasculate*, Bestow Curse (Greater)*, Blackfire*, Blasphemy, Delayed Blast Fireball, Destruction, Earthquake, Energy Ebb*, Finger of Death, Fire Storm, Horrid Wilting, Iron Body, Incendiary Cloud, Insanity, Maddening Whispers*, (Otto's) Irresistible Dance, Polar Ray, Power Word Blind, Power Word Stun, Prismatic Spray, Radiant Assault*, Reverse Gravity, Spell Turning, Waves of Exhaustion, Word of Chaos.
A saving throw against a Tarkanan dragonmark power has a DC of 10 + spell level + heir's Cha modifier.

The caster level for any Tarkanan mark power is 15th. The Tarkanan mark also meets the requirements for feats that require a Siberys Dragonmark.

* = Found in Spell Compendium

Improved Tarkanan Mark: At 3rd level, an heir of Tarkanan gains improved mastery over his supremely powerful aberrant mark ability. He can use the Tarkanan dragonmark spell like ability he already possess one additional time per day. Also, the caster level of his Tarkanan mark increases to 17th.

NOTES:
I'm going more for the effect that the character already has an aberrant mark and it blossoms into this terribly powerful mark. I don't just want it to suddenly spring up, like the Siberys mark does for true dragonmarks.

I only went with 7th and 8th level spells. The Heir of Siberys gains some 9th level spells, but their choices are much more restricted. I thought this was pretty fair.

I called the final mark a "Tarkanan Mark." First, I don't think its right to call it a "Siberys Aberrant Mark" as Aberrant marks are supposed to be something from Khyber. It could be a Khyber mark, but I see this class forming only after Tarkanan and the Lady of the Plauge were killed (or thought dead) and these characters would be his legacy.

Feedback? I'll post more descriptive stuff when I get a chance, and maybe a sample character.

At a glance, I like it. I don't really have the time right now to review all the spell-like options, but it looks good.

I'm also glad you went with "Heir of Tarkanan" for the name, but perhaps I'm just biased to my own recommendation.:P It makes much more sense for the role you wanted the PrC to play.

I have a player who will be starting a solo game focussed on his having an aberrant mark. I will be suggesting this PrC to him when he makes his character! Nicely done.

You'll run into problems with the prerequisites if he's starting the game with an aberrant mark. This PrC, like the Heir of Siberys, is for the character who spontaneously manifests a powerful dragonmark at high levels. It's not created to allow a character who already has a dragonmark to develop a "Tarkanan" mark, if I might call it such (as opposed the Siberys mark of the original class and fluff).;)

You could always make an exception, particularly since this is to be a single player game. Also, given his "uniqueness" (which I assume will be played-up in-game), it's not entirely inappropriate flavor-wise that he be allowed to continue developing his mark all the way up to this epic level.

I wonder if you'll run into balancing issues, though, if he has developed his mark substantially already (via feats) before entering the PrC. If he's willing, it my be best if he avoids developing the mark beyond the "least" variety until he enters the class. At any rate, balancing issues are relatively easy to handle in single-player games, since upping the CR won't kill three other PCs.

Ummm nope. See below:

I don't like the idea of a supremely powerful mark suddenly springing up on someone. Especially with the Aberrant mark, I see it more as a progression and like to see the mark advance and evolve into the more powerful Tarkanan Mark.

If you'd prefer to do it the way the Heir of Siberys PrC does, just make Heroic Spirit the Pre-req feat instead of an Aberrant mark of some sort.

That's what I get for assuming! :embarrass I never actually read through the write-up well enough, I guess.

I like that setup okay for your PrC. It lets the character deal with the repercussions of having an aberrant mark throughout his career, not just at level 12 and up. In that regard, it's perfect for a character like the one Nerdicus mentioned.

I do like the Heir of Siberys, and the idea of Siberys marks spontaneously manifesting. All the other marks also spontaneously appear on their bearers. The Siberys mark had to be restricted to higher level characters merely for balance purposes, being extremely powerful and rare; they're really not any different in most respects.

There's a cool example of a Siberys Heir in The Dragon Below novel series. The mark manifested unexpectedly under duress, as they tend to do.

Now I have to ask, OgreBane99: What did you do to balance the class, as it allows characters who already possess a mark (and potentially a powerful Greater 'Mark) to enter? I can review the class myself and try to pick it out, of course, but it would be easier if you just explained your process here.;) I assume that's one reason for making the spell-like abilities of a lower level?

Well, I think the feats themselves "balance" it. I mean, if you're going to burn 3 feats to take the "Greater Aberrant Mark," that's really not that optimal, in a powergamer view. Waste 3 feats to get a 5th - 6th level spell-like ability once per day? Especially if it's more of an attack spell-like ability. The caster level and Save DC will never be good enough to be really game-breaking.

Most people take the Aberrant Mark to get a nice buff spell, such as shield, that can actually really benefit someone in an encounter. I mean, what would you choose if you had burning hands or shield? 1d4 fire damage with a DC of 11-13 1/day or a +4 bonues to AC for 1 minute 1/day?

The reason I made the spells 1 level lower than those in the Heir of Siberys was because you are much more restricted on your choice of spell-like ability for Siberys. A gnome only gets the Mark of Scribing spell, and an elf only gets the Mark of Shadow or Mark of Storm. Where as the Aberrant Mark (Tarkanan Mark, if you will) gets their choice of a powerful spell like ability. And much of those 7th and 8th level spells are pretty mean... like avasculate, which seems like a very aberrant mark-ish spell-like ability, at least to me.

Even though this is purely my opinion, I don't see a powerful character such as Tarkanan or the Lady of the Plague spontainously gaining this powerful mark that grants them the abilities to "destroy cities." I see it growing and corrupting them as it progresses in strength.

Another reason I made having an already-existing aberrant mark a requirement for the class was that I wanted to make it a bit different from the Heir of Siberys... not just a cookie-cutter PrC with a couple different spell choices.

Well said. Honestly, any dragonmark feats are suboptimal for a powergamer. They really only shine when roleplayed well.

The reason I made the spells 1 level lower than those in the Heir of Siberys was because you are much more restricted on your choice of spell-like ability for Siberys.

I knew this was your primary reasoning.

You make a good point. It does seem more appropriate that way. It also, as you undoubtedly intended, gives the player him/herself a chance to fully enjoy the roleplaying challenge of an Aberrant-marked character. Fluff meets crunch.

Another reason I made having an already-existing aberrant mark a requirement for the class was that I wanted to make it a bit different from the Heir of Siberys... not just a cookie-cutter PrC with a couple different spell choices.

You've succeeded. It is well done. I will save it and try to use it at some point for sure.

I think I figured out why I thought the entry restrictions were the same as for Heir of Siberys. I saw the "Special: A character who has...." and failed my mental Jump check. You excluded all the true marks, not the Aberrant marks. Duh.

Thanks! I have a character in an upcomming Eberron campaign I'm running that may take this class as well.

I'm thinking that the players character will go for the Hier of Tarkanan class, but his little sister, whom will be the main NPC he will be playing with will manafest the Siberys Abberant mark. Her power will be the most powerful abberant mark to have been seen since the days of the war of the mark. But she won't want to have it nor want to use it. The PC will then have to find a way to protect him and his sister. SHoudl be a fun adventure/ campaign idea. I'm thinking it will start out in one of the major cities that aren't Sharn. The PC will begin play just after he manifests his abberant mark.

A little background:

The PC will have grown up within the House enclave of one of the established Houses of his choice. He and his sister will have been orphaned years ago when their mother, a scion of the House, will have died mysteriously. THey will never know for certain who their father was, but it will be played up not to be important. That is until they both manifest new powerful abberant marks. Both the same, though he will start out with a least mark and his sister will get the Siberys mark. From there on in it will be a race for security. I'm thinking that a close cousin will be present when they both manifest their abberant marks and that cousin will go and rat them out. then that cousin will be the main antagonist trying to find and destroy them.

Should be a fun game.

Here is something I have been tossing around in my head:

What about some new more powerful abberant marks? Something more along the lines of the more powerful marks from the war of the mark.

I'm thinking of a time stop power, a liquid fire power, and maybe a power that allows you to enhance three stats to a chosen target. Each one has four levels of power least, lesser, greater, and siberys. Any idea's? Again, this is only for this one solo game. WHen in a group situation I tend to keep things as written, but with solo games I like to really step outside the norm and have some fun with things.
