Spotas 04-03-07, 11:18 PM	I need to figure out if I need to make a custom homunculi or a custom magic item, and any input would be greatly helpful. The story goes like this, my party and I were on a covert mission into hostel territory and were riding the lightning rail when we encountered a female Elvin bard that asked way to many questions and answered less. My character is an artificer and being savvy in his way sculpted a likeness of her and rolled fairly well to boot. After leaving the rail we found that some one was scying on us every day. On our way back out we crossed paths with that same Elvin bard on the same stretch of lightning rail. Only this time she informed us that she was working for the ruling government as a spy and at the next stop there was going to be some people there that were going to "ASK" us some questions. One of my party member didn't like the idea and seized not only the moment but also the bard and threw her out a window. We followed after I cast feather fall on the group and proceeded to escape and evade the rest of the way across the border, fending off scry attempts the whole way. Later we found out that she had been in and out of our country before as an entertainer, and since scrying is a 3rd lvl bard spell it seems prety simple that she was to blame. My idea is this, since I have a likeness of the bard that I sculpted of her I want to make more of them and hopefully imbue them or animate them and put them at the lightning rail stations in our country. Once animated the statues would say a few things about her like: "Hello I am Ahlana, and I am from Korth in Karrnath and I am a multi-talented bard. Not only am I an expert of song and tales but I am also a SPY for King Kaius. If I show up in your town or social event and seem to be asking all sorts of questions don't worry, it is just so I can scry on you and report all that you do to my masters and even to King Kaius himself. If you saw me at an event and some horrible things happened shortly after it was probably my fault, te he he he, but you shouldn't be angry I was just doing my job and would do it all over again." You know stuff like that, now making them homunculi could be the answer but if they are destroyed then I would be injured too so not so good but making them magic items could be costly in xp and gp. Plus I still have to sell the idea to my DM. But like I said any feed back would be helpful.
Ryoden_Anariavas 04-04-07, 10:39 AM	I would suggest going the magic item rout would be the best idea. and just as expescive as building homulculus use "magic mouth" or "message" as the reqesit spells
Bladerock 04-04-07, 11:38 AM	Magic item is better, considering humunculi won't stray far from you even if ordered to do so. Also, other agents of the king might try to destroy them to stop it from spreading the info. This is bad, you don't want to take a bunch of d10s because they were crushed. Of course a golem of some sort would be even better, since it could fend of those who would try to destroy it. But i don't know wether you have the resources. Fliers would be the cheapest simplest option though.
RogueElement 04-04-07, 04:26 PM	Since you don't want the simulacrum to do anything but show an image and speak a warning (and if you don't want to go with Bladerock's low-tech leaflets suggestion), I would hire a Sivis gnome or use a Minor Schema to cast Permanent Image at each of those locations.
Evilmonster 04-04-07, 04:44 PM	if you don't mind babysitting it you could just use Animate Object and Magic Mouth on the dummy and puppet it around. A full blown magic item or golem is gonna be awfuly costly.
Spotas 04-04-07, 11:34 PM	Thank you all for your replys, I believe I found what I am looking for, there is a lvl 6 spell called Perminent Image that I believe would take care of what I need to happen only a little gold and I could have scrolls made up. Now all I need is to be a high enough lvl to scribe the scrolls myself.
