Horrid and magebred temp Q [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-08-08, 08:29 PM Can you make a beast that ha both temps and not screw around with the mage bred's flavor and technaclaites?

ex."Horrid Dire Magebred Wolf"

05-28-08, 09:21 PM I don't think it would break any rules to have all 3 templates on a creature. But one thing to keep in mind is that this creature will be very unique to the point where you might well as go with a "Legendary Creature" template over the Horrid and Dire instead of Magebred.

05-28-08, 11:11 PM Well, you have to screw with one or the other's flavor. Horrid animals are made by druids to protect sites, and magebred is looked down upon in druid society. Nothing stops it, but it does break the flavor.

Thats why I recommended the Legendary Creature template.

05-29-08, 01:47 PM I was wondering that same question. If I could get horrid and magebred on a bullete. I need to find a way to increase it's burrow speed to at least 20.

05-29-08, 01:53 PM If you need a bulette with a burrow speed of 20, then just make it 20. If the PCs wonder why there's this crazy-fast bulette, then you've either got a great red herring or a whole plotline that you can exploit.

If your players know the Monster Manual like the backs of their character sheets then switch things up on them. Find a cool picture of a monster and show it to them, but use some statblock that you feel is appropriate. Rename and recolor things.

If they start complaining that they are fighting things that aren't in the MM, then you should explain to them that their omniscience about the mechanics makes your job more difficult and reduces the fun that you can have as a DM.

Sometimes mechanics and rules need to take a backseat to fun.

Its that I thought it would be cool to see a landshark (bullete) do the same thing as a shark. Go through the land jump out of it attack and then go back in.
having to have the PCs use ready actions for when it jumped to hit it with everything they had.

06-01-08, 10:05 PM And of course, there's nothing stopping you from using the templates without the flavor. Just because its got the same mechanics as magebred and horrid doesn't mean it actually *IS* a magebred horrid animal, just that its got the same abilities as one.

Maybe the druids are just getting better at making horrid animals, and it has nothing to do with Vadalis or magebreeding, they just have stronger, faster horrid animals.
