| maghana10-09-07, 06:36 AM | Hi all, So I'm a human artificer, but would like to change into a warforged or maybe something with the 'living contruct'-subtype for a longere periode of time say 24 hours or someting like that. This is of course to use all those nice infusions on myself. Other then using shapechange, what other options are there ? Tia, maghana. EDIT: Yes I could have choosen to be a warforged from the start, but that closes off some nice options (favored in house, PRC etc.) for the artificer :( |
| Shady31410-09-07, 06:57 AM | Renegade Mastermaker. |
| maghana10-09-07, 07:12 AM | Renegade Mastermaker. Hmmm, don't have my books with me, but won't that take like 10 levels ? - a bit expensive but you did answer the question :) ... silly me, need to be more precise: I need to change into a warforged (or it's subtype) but still be able to return to human form ... :D |
| Garden_State_Gamer10-09-07, 09:00 AM | Not that this answers your question directly, but there is a wizard's spell that allows you to change your form into a Warforged Titan. I forget the name of the spell, but it was definitely in the Spell Compendium (and most likely in Magic of Eberron). It might be a good starting point for a custom spell. |

| Just_some_Evil_Wizard10-10-07, 01:18 PM | Magic Jar (S/W5) might help and can last for several hours at a time. The spell description doesn't state which type the "possessed" creature has; I'd say it keeps the body's type, and perhaps your DM will say the same. |
| larry_the_titan10-12-07, 05:55 PM | Body of war won't give you what you need. It turns you into a Warforged Titan which isn't a Living Construct it is just a Construct. You also lose your ability to cast spells. Renegade mastermaker is your only choice and the effect is permanent. |
| Jeebus201010-14-07, 06:11 AM | maybe you could homebrew a PrC somthing like the dragon disciple of warforged? |
| maghana10-15-07, 10:42 AM | maybe you could homebrew a PrC somthing like the dragon disciple of warforged? Sorry for the late answer ... gleemax problems :) ... I need "by the book"-rules ... no homebrew ... otherwise this would be an easy task indeed :D |

Hmmm ... a good idea, but seems a bit risky ... of course I could make a Warforged body with simulacrum, but it still seems too complicated, my dm might not like :duel: |

As in, if there's a spell that can turn you into a Warforged Titan, then I say that it's possible to make a custom spell with similar effects. Similar, as in game flavor, that you are still making a warforged. Renegade Mastermaker is your "only choice" if you are going by strict canon of the campaign setting rules. |

And I read it like that ... I think your idea might swing with my dm, its not a far stretch from Titan to 'plain'-warforged (no insult towards warforged players intended :) ). But still, if its a 9th level spell, shapechange will do it 'out-of-the-box' :) But there might be other possibilities, I remember reading some spell in ... hmmm ... Races of eberron; think its name was Human Essence, [Greater], that gave you the human subtype. But if one could find an effect the could give you the Living construct subtype (or maybe just Construct type) would that be enough? could you use W.components/infusions etc ? And for that matter, what does this 'gain a subtype' really mean? - If you where human and gained the (Living) Construct (sub)type, would you change things like appearance, not having to breath, not age (almost not age :)) and so on ? |
| Just_some_Evil_Wizard10-15-07, 04:34 PM | In MM3, there are the "half-golem" templates. However, they turn you into a construct permanently (and apparently make you a liiiiittle crazy), but it might be a start for another idea. The half-golems are created in a process very similar to grafts, which usually don't change your type. But... why not a graft that DOES change your type? Something called "Heart of Steel" which has no other effect than turn you into a construct (living construct subtype), for example. This would, of course, be permanent AND require somebody with the Graft (Construct) feat, but it probably would leave your character intact. Pricing isn't easy, but as the EBCS puts WF at +0 LA*, it doesn't appear to value being of the (living) construct sub(type) very high. If you don't take any of the various abilities/immunities of the warforged, and maybe some of the disadvantages (e. g., resistance to healing magic - probably wouldn't matter much, as you're an artificier yourself), haggling about that shouldn't be too hard. *I wouldn't, but my opinion on that doesn't count here. ;-) P. S.: Perhaps you could work around the whole problem. An ability that lets you get affected by spells usually only affecting constructs would be enough. This is similar to the feat "Tomb-tainted Soul" in Libris Mortis (p. 31), which makes a living being react to positive/negative energy like an undead. Why not a "Construct-tainted Soul" feat that makes you react to certain spells (including cure/repair spells) like a living construct? And if there is no feat slot available, a magic item (permanent or temporary) might do the same trick. Pricing could be based on other items that grant use of a feat or a power similar in power to a feat. |
| redhase10-16-07, 01:30 AM | here's another way to do this also from the book legends & lore school of illusion, page 41. impersonate the spellls says this: by touching a target (living or dead), you assume all aspects of his form, including mannerisms, speech, and body language. you effectively become the tatgets double. try this spell or I can't remember where the spell is, the spell allows you to trade souls, if I find the spell I'll say what book it's from. but that could work, find a warforged that wants to know what it's like to become human, and switch bodies and the make it perement. |

Hehe ... I especially like that you include how to negotiate with the dm :) ... I like the whole 'Cyborg' kind of feel, and the fact that I may dodge a huge payout in levels (=Renegade Mastermaker). I could live with +1-3 LA, and still get the full potential from the Artificer. Indeed this idea has merit :) ... (And I certainly don't mind the 'crazy'-part, since this just makes it easier to make 'frankenstein-ish' creations under the guise of being a 'mad scientist' :looloo: ) |
| Just_some_Evil_Wizard10-16-07, 12:53 PM | I'm glad you like the idea. :) And cheers to the six-million-gold-piece-artificier! ;) |

| Sinfire Titan10-26-07, 01:29 AM | Body of War, and its 7th level. Still basically Polymorph though. Fixed. And the spell rocks. |

| Rekko10-26-07, 09:14 AM | What makes you want to switch between a warforged form an a human form? Is it only for the wand sheath? If so, I suggest a warforged arm in which you can put a wand sheath. Is it for the repair spells that can now affect you (so you can survive the Mournland better, for example)? Take a warforged druid with you, seriously, I don't know how you could do that without Renegade Mastermaker. Rekko |
| Garden_State_Gamer10-26-07, 12:03 PM | Ed, your copy might be a little wonky. Mine says 7th level too. |

Take a warforged druid with you, seriously, I don't know how you could do that without Renegade Mastermaker. Rekko Sorry, been offline awhile due to travel. Mainly I *want* to be able to change form human to warforged :D ... but more in line with the rules, the human part is very importent for several PrC's that are designed with the artificer in mind and is also important for House Cannith - Dragonmarks are also fun - so I almost need to be human. Also there are options the just don't exist for a 'construct', like most social interaction (ok, so the princess gave you a kiss on your hard metal cheek for saving her, but I don't think this could go any further :allalone:). And on the other hand, I don't want to pay 10 levels to become human/warforged hybrid - rather choose something else. The reasons to become warforged are likewise legion: Infusions and certain spells only work on warforged - mostly the self-buff's and healing are nice; Then there are the coolness of components (not only the wandsheath, but also the very nature of warforged components :) ); It just seems that the warforged makes the perfect choice. Its also true that Shapechange solves all problem, but thats a 9th level spell, and you need to make a staff to get it ... pricy ... and you'll have to wait till 15th level if you want to make it yourself. No fun. But most of all, this is the character I want to play ... this may not be entirely build upon logical choices so there's little reason to think of this as optimization only  |
