The horrid template is GREAT. And it makes sense that an Ogre would ride a horrid animal (how a horrid animal would consent to be ridden, I'm not too sure about ;) ). As for adding the horrid template to a dire animal... well...

I think thats more of an encounter, than a mount. If this Ogre is an encounter himself - I'd say go for it! :D

I cannot recommend a Magebred Clydesdale enough! We had one in my Eberron party for a while, it served as both a mount for our Hexblade and the propulsion for a wagon full of neato items and a compulsively tinkering Artificer. I miss that horse.

I actually houserule that, in addition to dire animals, other "throw-back" creatures such as smilodons, glyptodons, dinosaurs, etc, may also have the Horrid template. Broken? Not really. Entertaining as hell? You bet.

You could be carried along by a horde of goblins. If you want to know what I mean, look into the online store of Games Workshop, and look for the Ogre Kingdoms, the characters/generals, there you will find the picture of the model of a hugely fat ogre chieftain carried along by a mass of gnoblars (which are a kind of goblins).

Would look very funny, indead, but if it makes sense ... I leave this to you. *g*
