Rechan 05-19-07, 12:42 AM	I have a PC using an Illumian in my Sharn game (Illumians are from Races of Destiny, excerpt here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20041203a&page=2)). I was wondering what people have done with them and what sorts of Cabals they have used? What I did with Illumians is thus: the Word made Flesh was actually created by gnomes. After they discovered it, initially the gnomes used the Word to create a bretherin among Humans, because Illumian love of intrigue and language is par and parcel of Gnomes. But then the Trust found out about the experiment and realized that it would be a perfect way to seed Khorvaire for their own interests. The Dreaming Dark have a love/hate relationship with them becuase the Illumians can be infiltrated and their resources harnessed for the DD's purposes (all the DD has to do is come in and take over and all the footwork is done), but the cabals are also smart and skilled at what they do, providing a threat to the DD's operations if they are discovered. Illumians are known and distrusted like gnomes are, but moreso - Illumians can pass as humans after all. The PC's Cabal is structured around accumulating knowledge on stealth and assassination. They really don't Do anything outside of protect and collect this information. The PC is their Final Seed. I'm looking for a decent Cabal that might become an interesting foil against his Cabal (or possibly get the DD moving in on them).

ArcTan 05-22-07, 11:55 PM	An aggressive Ascension Cabal would be a very flavorful insertion that would almost inevitably draw the attention and ire of both the Dreaming Dark and the more neutral Cabals around them.
Just another user 05-23-07, 06:58 AM	An idea for iluminians in Eberron already posed in other threads and here quoted to sum up my version, in my Eberron Illuminians are the Prophecy made flesh. A long, long time ago they were a secret cabal that studied the prophecy to attempt to tap from its power, someway they developed, or found, a ritual that would have allowed them to do it (someone say that this ritual was actually a gift from a misterious Traveller <hint> <hint> ;) ) what this ritual actually did was merge the prophecy and the once-time humans in what now were illuminians (not exactly what they were expecting). About what exactly happened and what exactly are, nobody, not even them, is really sure, some version say that they are tools of the Prophecy and that all and every of their action is predetermined and hence they have no true free will, other versions says that they have actually have the power, unique between al the race of the world, to control, or influence, or maybe even destroy the prophecy with their actions, that they could change the future in a way or the other. This uncertainity is probably one of the reasons that stop the dragons from sweeping them from the face of Korvhaine, because they don't know for certain if they are just servant of the Prophecy,made to help it being realized and knowing it in a way that even the dragon can't hope to understand, or if they are its worst enemy, parasite at best, saboteur at worst. Another reason the dragon esitate to intervene is that some of thembelieve that, now that they are binded destroying the illuminians as a race could actually [b]hurt[b], or kill the prophecy , the only thing sure is that they try to keep a very close eye to the iluminians cabal around Korvhaine. About how they live is pretty much how is said in RoD, AFAIR. They are spread in a number of separate and indipendent cabals around the continent, in little populated places, some cabal believe in the "tool of the prophecy" part and work to fulfill it (even if different cabals could have different idea on what exactly the prophecy say), some in the "destroying it" part working against it (see previous point) or trying to bend it to their personal version of prophecy) other again just don't care and have their objectives, some while saying "considered that everything we do is determined by the Prophecy we could even just do what the heck we want" other simply just not caring. There is a lot of variety, but they tend to stay hidden and try to pass for humans (or kalahstars) as much as they can. I not sure that my idea fit with their racial ability, but I think it is cool enough to be worth tweaking them a little if/where is necessary. :)

I think I have mentioned the dragons reaction to Iluminians. Essentially, they don't know what to do with them, if they are really the Prophecy made flesh it is possible that they are Meant to be and the Prophecy use them as tools to fulfill itself or parts of. What is worse it they are really linked to the Prophecy destroying them could actually hurt it (I think I read somewhere that there are dragons that see the Propecy as a kind of living being) so they can't just go and wipe them out like they did with the house of Vol (even assuming they are able to do it). So the best they can do is wait and see, and maybe try to use them to pursue their objective.
