| JiCi04-16-07, 02:27 PM | In Five Nations, Jaela Daran, the current Keeper of the Silver Flame has two stat blocks: one for when she's outside of the church (cleric 1), and one when she's inside (cleric 15 !). I've seen a few more that increase in levels when near the Silver Flame, but it's not a regular basis: one is 10 levels higher, another is 8 levels, some is 20 levels, etc... Is there a rule of thumb for that, a template or a way to determine how much can the Silver Flame boost a cleric ? |
| kaionon04-16-07, 03:30 PM | I don't think there is any specific rule for it JiCi. It's all about what the silverflame determins how it (or whatever spirit/ being is giving the powers) wants for it's keeper and other servents. Allso, adding a template for it would kind of lessen how mystical it is by giving it ful mechanics like that :P Allso, if it was a template you know people would be wanting to play as the keeper. :D |
| JiCi04-16-07, 04:05 PM | Yeah, good point on the playable keeper. Another thing that struck me is that Jaela Daran is a cleric, as she's just 11 years old, 4 years below the "legal age" to gain class levels. |
| Hideous Phidias04-16-07, 04:19 PM | Did you read the story about the keeper? Yes, she is young. No, she is not the first to be that young. It has just been along time sence one that young was chosen to be a keeper. You see the Silver Flame itself choses who will be its voice. When a god calls you come. You see it works like the Doi lama if you show the sighs you are the next keeper. Remember the Silver Flame is just another a bloody sake cult. They just dont want to admit it. |

Correction: Clr3 outside, Clr18 inside. I've seen a few more that increase in levels when near the Silver Flame, but it's not a regular basis: one is 10 levels higher, another is 8 levels, some is 20 levels, etc... Who exactly are these people? I know of only one besides Jaela Daran who gains more levels inside Flamekeep (Melysse Miron, Clr11 to Clr21). |

| Edymnion04-16-07, 09:39 PM | Is there a rule of thumb for that, a template or a way to determine how much can the Silver Flame boost a cleric ?The rule of thumb is that they become however powerful you as the DM need them to become for the sake of the story. As for a template, I like to put it this way. You *NEVER* make mechanics for something unless you plan on letting the players use it. If a spell is statted out, a template is made, or a monster given hitpoints, the assumption then is that the spell/template is something a player can get their hands on, or that it is something you expect the PCs to kill. If you don't want to give it to the players, then don't bother statting it. Its okay, you can be arbitrary with NPCs. Heck, the NPCs don't even have to be BALANCED unless you plan on having your PCs actually freaking fight them. |
