I know it says that neither a ranger nor a druid can attain a magebred animal companion in the ECS due to they're un-naturalness. And yet, in the 5N book it talks about magebred animal companions and how to aquire them. Is there some Errata on this? I checked the ECS errata and didnt see anything. |

(Region of origin etc?) Not having the book, and so not knowing the fluff, I would guess that a magebred animal companion would come from an escaped/released population. If they are now living in the wild and breeding true, that might count as being 'natural' enough for an animal companion. |

You have to be from Breland to get the magebred brown bear or magebred ghost tiger as animal comanions. The reasoning for this is that they have been released into the wild, at least in the tiger's case, and have a special conection to Breland. I believe there are also some special mentions about Ranger and Druid circles in that book or a web enhancement that point it out a bit too. |

It's a simple matter of an author writing for a setting they don't know very well. Happens all the time. Are you the DM? Then it's up to you whether you go with the ECS or 5N. Even if you go with 5N it's a very specific circumstance that allows it. If you're not the DM you have to ask them what they've decided. As for errata WOTC doesn't bother errata-ing things anymore. It would just take too much time. :smirk: |
