Hey, I just got the magic of the incarnum book and I decided to roll a duskling totemist, but I was just unclear on the essentia assignment. if I bind (like sphinx claws for instance) to a totem do I have to invest essentia into the totem chakra and the hand chakra separately, or does the essentia count for both the hand and totem?

Neither. You invest essentia into the soulmeld; you get special effects for having it bound to a chakra, IIRC.

What andinel said. You invest essentia into soulmenlds, not chakras. In the description of each soulmeld, it lists the benefits each additional point of invested essentia adds. All you do with chakras is bind soulmelds to them.

Also make sure to note the essentia capacity table on page 19.
