| monstersandpie05-28-07, 04:51 PM | Trying to use a troglodyte for a character. Trogs' level adjustment is +2, but their starting ECL is 4. If I make a trog with one level of ranger, should the rest of the party make level 3 or level 5 characters to match? Thanks. |
| gelalshawr05-28-07, 04:58 PM | this isn't really an Eberron thread, but your Trog character, I'm assuming it has 2 racial HD if it's ECL is 4, would be effectively level five as a 1st level ranger. |
| monstersandpie05-28-07, 05:00 PM | right. well we're running an eberron campaign, and eberron seems to have a lot more inclusion for monsters as PC races. anyhow, thanks for the clarification. |
| Rerecros05-28-07, 05:01 PM | If you start the trog off with no character levels, the other party members can start at level 4. |
| monstersandpie05-28-07, 05:04 PM | So then where does one use the level adjustment? Is it used for anything other than determining the ECL? Sorry if I'm asking the really obvious stuff. This is my first monster PC. Thanks again all. |
| gelalshawr05-28-07, 05:08 PM | basically it's just to determine ECL, it's Level Adjustment + Racial HD + Class Level = ECL |
| monstersandpie05-28-07, 05:15 PM | hmm. maybe I'll go with a Poison Dusk lizardfolk instead - starting ECL of 1, so the others won't have to start off too high to match. anyone run a lizardfolk? maybe I'll start a new thread for this... |
| gelalshawr05-28-07, 05:17 PM | you could just run a monster campaign, Flinds are also ECL 4 and pretty cool cuz you get to pimpslap all the gnolls |
| Cifer05-28-07, 05:24 PM | So then where does one use the level adjustment? Is it used for anything other than determining the ECL? Nope. It's just the "empty space" not filled up with Racial Hit Dice or class levels to make up for your kewl powerz. |
