| stanleyx200209-26-07, 04:36 PM | Is it just me, or is there a significant lack of attention paid to halflings in Eberron, as opposed to all the other races? Or the Talenta Plains in general compared to other areas/territories? In the books especially, there isn't much and in almost all of them it's repeated from the ECS. So is it just me? or is there a secret archive I don't know about? I ask this because I'm playing a Halfling starting next week and would like to know what I can. |
| Arcane Guyver09-26-07, 08:17 PM | There honestly isn't that much out there. Races of Eberron has some possible RP hooks to run with. If you want to be part of a halfling DM house, check out Dragonmarked for Jorasco and Ghallanda. Beyond that, stick to the core basics: you aren't afraid of anything, you're innately more acrobatic than the average person, unparalleled eye-hand coordination (when throwing things, at least), and all members of your race have a certain amount of 'luck' going for them. |
| Alex_09-26-07, 09:00 PM | I wouldn't say the Talenta Plains/Halflings get any less attention than other non-central nation or their respective races. Player's Guide to Eberron is also a good book to check. |

For example: My Talenta plains halfling is a distinctly different character than my Ghallandan scion. The one born and raised on the plains has trained her own dinosaur to carry her into battle, has levels in both rogue and barbarian, and can be relied upon to tell you exactly what she thinks of any situation. Her clothes are practical and her outlook embittered and somewhat cynical, due to her experiences in the Last War. I don't have to know the exact geography of the plains or the specific social customs of Talenta halflings to know what I know about Tovi. The one raised in a more metropolitan environment has levels in sorcerer and swashbuckler, capitalizing on her facility with illusion and her general nimbleness compared to larger folk. She never lies, but she's excellent at telling partial truths. She dresses elegantly and enjoys social situations, and never feels slighted because of her race or size. She never experienced the Last War first hand, but deals daily with the effects of the world on her House and vice-versa. I don't need to know all of the ins and outs of House Ghallanda to know these things about Shanna. Well, that's how I look at it, anyway. Although I hope that there will be more information released about them, I also think that the relative lack of cannon info in the meantime gives you an incredible amount of freedom. Of course, I'm also known for freely breaking cannon whenever it suits my story, so you might feel differently. |
