Hi everyone,

I am looking for opinions on Eberron flavor (not game mechanics): Would it be possibilty for Valenar Elves to allow a human who was blessed as a "Ruathar" (Races of the Wild) to become a Revenant Blade?

Thanks, Shaya

I wouldn't think it likely. Valenar seem to be pretty hung up about blood lines and relatives and the like. Simply being a very strong ally of the Valenar is not the same as being the direct descent of Valenar. Blood's thicker than water in this case.

If I were a DM, I wouldn't allow it.

I'd say the likelyhood correlates with the rarity of Ruathar.

Namely, if they're handing out elven training like penny candy then no, the Valenar won't be interested in you.

However... If it's reserved for extremely rare circumstances (Less than one a century) then the Valenar may see them as being worthy. Possibly they may believe an ancestor spirit has manifested through another race for some reason.
You're not a human, they'd think, you're something way better.

If your character's back story or the beginning of the campaign, has you explain the connection. Why not. Maybe you saved an elven soldier/officer from embarrasment, dishonor or worse. A debt of honor..........or maybe you defeated one of them to defend your honor and impressed the commanding officer enough to bring you onboard( probation until you prove your worth in blood/kills/wisdom).

You could also explain it as, for whatever reason, a Valenar married into a human family, leaving you as his or her many-great-descendent. Sure, you've got so little elven blood as to be unquantifiable, but it might be enough for an ancestor to manifest through you. And the Valenar recognize that, following an ancient ceremony of what is basically magical adoption.

Story-wise, it has great potential. Recall that the Keepers of the Past are still debating whether or not a Khoravar can even have a patron ancestral spirit. Declaring that a Ruathar, however beloved by the court of Taer Valaestas, is guided by an elven ancestral spirit will cause a schism among scholar and warrior alike. (Not that any of Eberron's powergroups would be interested in causing such controversy... :incog:)

Thanks for all your answers. Some answers:

Connections to the Elves:
My character has solved a very... 'spiritual' quest linked to the Valenar Elves and has in a way rescued two warclans from complete destruction (by helping to form a new one ... long story ;) ).

The Character's background:
Orginally, I hadn't planned any connections to the Valenar Elves ... but from early childhood on she had been haunted by strange dreams and visions, which now could be interpreted as visions from her ancestor guide. And it is possible to have an Elf somewhere in the line of her ancestors. So it could work ;)

But in the end it seems to be that it could be possible to become a Revenant Blade when you are a Ruathar - but it seems rather unlikely that the Valenar Elves name you Ruathar. Correct?

Well, like for example Wild Elves from Valenar, it's all a matter of personal taste. :)
