Can fiends possessing someone use the fiends own abilities, if they are sufficiently mental? Or they're wholly ethereal, and can't affect the material plane at all? |
| Rerecros06-08-07, 01:19 AM | This is clearly spelled out on page 100 of ECS, first paragraph under possession RTFM. |
| heirodule06-08-07, 03:48 PM | Well, actually, I had read it. And it says "some fiends with 4 hd and cha score of 13 have the ability to shuck their forms." I was wondering hos you determined which "some" did and which didn't. Is it just DM fiat? I'm also still wondering about the possessors ability to you the possessors own abilities. |
| Rechan06-08-07, 04:41 PM | The Book of Vile Darkness had rules on possession. Generally it was a special ability that added 1 to the CR of any outsider (or was that demon/devil?). |
| Teron Gorefiend06-09-07, 05:29 PM | It seems all quori can possess, though at present they're limited to willing humans. Beyond that, I suppose it's a DM call. One of Keith Baker's Dragon articles included an adventure hook involving items possessed by rakshasas; along with the wording in the ECS, I took this to mean that select individuals of various fiendish kinds can possess, though I don't know what (fluff-wise) determines which have the ability. |
| Rerecros06-09-07, 06:19 PM | All outsiders who meet the criteria can possess people, no PrC or special ability required. |
| Amaril06-25-07, 09:38 AM | This is clearly spelled out on page 100 of ECS, first paragraph under possession RTFM. A little overly aggressive. If it bothers you that much to answer, then don't answer. |
| Teron Gorefiend06-25-07, 06:33 PM | All outsiders who meet the criteria can possess people, no PrC or special ability required. Explain this, then: Well, actually, I had read it. And it says "some fiends with 4 hd and cha score of 13 have the ability to shuck their forms." I was wondering hos you determined which "some" did and which didn't. Is it just DM fiat? I'm also still wondering about the possessors ability to you the possessors own abilities. |
| Esgay06-27-07, 04:18 PM | I take it to mean "when the DM feels it's necessary" meaning he (I) can have anything from a dretch cursing a well to a balor riding around in Krozen's head. It also stops people channeling celestial cohorts :p |
