| Vharuck04-05-07, 04:42 PM | Nothing's cooler in Eberron than the daelkyr. No, that's not opinion, that's a fact. Anyways, it seems that each daelkyr is a worldshaper (though often the final shape of the worlds they play with is rubble) and has its own unique artistic flair or motif. They're artists, I tell you! So officially there are six named daelkyr lords in Khyber: Dyrrn the Corruptor: He created the dolgrim, dolgaunts, and IIRC chokers. Belashyrra, the Lord of Eyes: He created the beholders. The Stained One: I don't think his style is mentioned, basically he's an immobile daelkyr with a castle built around his prison. Orlassk, the Lord of Stone: Credited with basilisks and medusas, he rides through Khyber in a living gargoyle fortress. Kyrzin, Prince of Slime and Ooze: Name says it all, I'd say. And the sixth is in Five Nations somewhere, but I'm having trouble finding or remembering it right now... But that's not enough for me! And I doubt it's enough for most of you daelkyr madness lovers. So I made up my own (didn't stat them out, that's a headache I'll save until any of my PCs might face it), and I'd love to see your daelkyr lords too! Agyo, the Lord of Maws: I kinda based this guy on the story that, near the end of his life, the artist Goya went crazy. He became obsessed with mouths: eating and chewing, spitting and vomiting. I see this daelkyr as obsessed with it too. Though he has a mouth, the daelkyr never needed to eat (he's an outsider) and marveled when he saw the mortal races eating other things (he especially loved the carnal eating of other animals). So he warped beings to better suit his fixation. The products of his experiments were gibbering mouthers and digesters. I'm also working on a new aberration, which is basically an orc covered in gnashing, wailing mouths lined with fangs. The most disturbing mouths are located on the palms of his hands and where his eyes should be. Another creation of Agyo is a symbiote tongue that allows the host to spit acid. Ryalin the Pretender: Not exactly the most military-minded of the daelkyr, Ryalin still played a tremendous role during the war against Dhakaan. Ryalin is odd for a daelkyr in that, though he has been known to dabble in the transmutation of others for which the daelkyr are feared, he prefers to transmute himself. Ryalin's favored medium is acting. He rarely maintains his true form, and loves to test his acting ability by killing a person (or capturing them for later experiments) and impersonating them. During the invasion, Ryalin disguised himself as hobgoblin captains, attended war meetings, and delighted in revealing to the others that he was not who they thought he was by either slaying them or driving them utterly insane. He always had to have his achievements known. Of the few creations Ryalin counts in his repetoire, mimics and doppelgangers are rumored by Gatekeepers to be creations of Ryalin (though most doppelgangers and especially changelings despise this assertion). Two creatures the Gatekeepers are assured are Ryalin's work are intellect devourers and puppeteers (Expanded Psionics Handbook). |
| DragoonDarkfire04-05-07, 05:07 PM | Tarst The Berserk: A daelkyr of rage and pure anger. He enjoys it whenever someone loses their temper. He incites people and creatures to attack things if they are threatened or to act completely irrationally in situations. He created a version of Ogres he calls Dolraggiars that are driven to be in a constant state of rage. |
| Daydreamer04-05-07, 06:47 PM | Just for some info on the stained one-it suggests that he is very closely in link with Illithids-and it seems to suggest via the cyrstaline prision and his place of residence-that he might be/posses psionic's. For my part-id like to contribute something slightly different. (this is something ive been considering doing in my game for a while-so i might get feedback here). Az-la-ratham- The lord of nihilism or-the soulless one. The Daelkyr have motives beyond scrutiny. As strange as there choice of tactics during the war was there choice of allies. Az-la-ratham is a mysterious and powerful Ultraloth. An outcast from his own race for some strange sin committed millennium ago-he has long been in alliance with the Daelkyr. Az-la-ratham makes no aberrations-but he corrupts men by robbing all meaning from there life. A master of shadows and spies he worked closely with Daelkyr by playing both the part of spy and saboteur. He is responsible for many converts to the dragon below. His interest in Eberron is unknown-except that he had an intense interest in what is now Droaam. Mistaken as one of Daelkyr by most-he was trapped in Khyber along with the rest of them, his prison lies under Droaam. Rumor has it that he is constantly trying to get the daughters of Sora-kel to come to him-however whatever information he brought to there attention seems to make them take great caution. I have him statted somewhere-if anyones interested i could try finding it. If anybody could be bothered offer a comment on the idea-its mostly to throw pcs off gaurd, and i though id contribute something off base here. |
| Werebat04-05-07, 08:16 PM | The excellent "Dragon Below" book series deals with another Daelkyr named "The Master of Silence", whose associations would be spoilers so I won't post them here. A suggestion about Dyrrn the Corrupter -- He may also have created Nothics. It isn't mentioned canonically anywhere as far as I know, but look at a Nothic, look at its stats, and know that Nothics sprang from Orcs. Well, OK, maybe the eye-loving fellow made the Nothics, but still they were corrupted from Orcs. Maybe a sick joke about Gruumsh, even if he doesn't exist in Eberron, hey, they're Daelkyr, they have mad knowledge. My own lord, as mentioned in another thread, is The Crawling Potentate, Lord of Worms. He created innumerable wormlike aberrations, or if he didn't create them then he holds sway over them -- Gricks, Carrion Crawlers, Wystes, Psurlons, Tsochari, Pseudonatural Purple Worms, and Neothelids, to name a few. Some whisper that he has created intelligent, hivemind worm and leech swarms as well as parasitic worms that infest the brain and cause madness. Unlike many Daelkyr he often chooses to wear a non-humanoid form, that of a worm with the head of a Daelkyr, which travels about in a rotting, floating brain that it continually burrows in and out of by chewing. The Wormlord's minions are particularly interested in freeing him from his prison, and work harder than many to bring about this horrid event. It may be that his wormlike nature enables him to "worm" his way out of his prison sooner than the other imprisoned Daelkyr lords. Some say that The Wormlord is at odds with The Stained One, something to do with the Illithid, the Neothelids, and one Daelkyr or the other stealing and twisting the creation of the other -- who can say which? - Ron ^*^ |
| Vharuck04-05-07, 08:36 PM | Nice, Werebat. Awesome to see what you did with your wormlord idea. |
| loseth04-06-07, 03:31 PM | The one from 5N is Bhodex'av'gr, and he's a shaper of plants. Edit: Oh, but he's not in Khyber. |

| loseth04-06-07, 04:23 PM | 5n? 5 = Five N = Nations Yes, it was just too much trouble to type the whole title. ;) |
| Daydreamer04-06-07, 04:52 PM | where in 5 nations, i havet he book but cant remember him. |
| loseth04-06-07, 05:07 PM | where in 5 nations, i havet he book but cant remember him. Well... [spoiler]He's the master of Yarkuun Draal, listed under the entry for the ruin. |
| Werebat04-06-07, 05:17 PM | Well... [spoiler]He's the master of Yarkuun Draal, listed under the entry for the ruin. Ah-ha, I have a feeling I know which Dungeon campaign arc he's going to be at the end of, then... (At least in the online edit for Eberron) - Ron ^*^ |

| Werebat04-06-07, 06:04 PM | That's exactly what I need for my campaign! Got a link? Dungeon magazine's "Seeds of Sehan" story arc. Just got the second installment today. - Ron ^*^ |
| Daydreamer04-06-07, 06:24 PM | what number dungeons? this takes place in yarkhuun draal!? |
| Werebat04-07-07, 09:29 AM | what number dungeons? this takes place in yarkhuun draal!? No, it doesn't. It takes place in and around a city made up for the story arc. But they usually post an online article explaining how to adapt the adventure to different campaign worlds, and I'd imagine this arc will be adapted to include yarkhuun draal. The most recent adventure involves PCs journeying to an old ruined city in order to seek out some lord of madness and plants who has been causing all the trouble. You'll want Dungeons 145, 146, and 147 (which hasn't been released yet). - Ron ^*^ |
| loseth04-07-07, 03:13 PM | The most recent adventure involves PCs journeying to an old ruined city in order to seek out some lord of madness and plants who has been causing all the trouble. That is so perfect. The level looks a bit low for dealing with a Daelkyr (CR20 and surrounded by abberant nasties), but powered up a bit, it sounds like it will be just right. |
| OneWinged4ngel04-07-07, 08:35 PM | So officially there are six named daelkyr lords in Khyber: Could you please mention the source each of these lords are mentioned in? |
| Daydreamer04-07-07, 09:16 PM | 4 are mentioned in PGTE 1 Is mentioned in magic of eberron 1 is metioned...ummm...shoot. umm 5 nations i think. (though this particular daelkyr is back in xoriat and has much more localized and less influence than the other daelkyr. |

Very cool! Some whisper that he has created intelligent, hivemind worm and leech swarms as well as parasitic worms that infest the brain and cause madness. Sounds like the Worm that Walks and Puppeteer (Epic Level Handbook and Expanded Psionics Handbook, repectively) Unlike many Daelkyr he often chooses to wear a non-humanoid form, that of a worm with the head of a Daelkyr, which travels about in a rotting, floating brain that it continually burrows in and out of by chewing. The Wormlord's minions are particularly interested in freeing him from his prison, and work harder than many to bring about this horrid event. It may be that his wormlike nature enables him to "worm" his way out of his prison sooner than the other imprisoned Daelkyr lords. Wasn't there a big adventure arc in Dungeon called the Age of Worms or something like that. Sounds like could be good to adapt. Some say that The Wormlord is at odds with The Stained One, something to do with the Illithid, the Neothelids, and one Daelkyr or the other stealing and twisting the creation of the other -- who can say which? - Ron ^*^ And that is another really cool idea. |
| tlarham04-08-07, 06:38 PM | I'm using Monte Cooks Chaositech to design my Daelkyr Lord -- the master of flesh, metal, and chaos. Veeeery creepy stuff. His lair is a giant moving Chaositech kraken that swims the deep, abyssmal, dark, and crushing seas of Khyber beneath the Mournland. My PC's are drooling to sell the few bits of Chaositech they have plundered to House Cannith -- I can't wait to make them deal with the fallout of single-handedly handing over a dragonmarked house to the control of the Dragon Below. *evil laughter* Perhaps they have to allign themselves with some equally nasty baddies (LoB, or the LoD) to fight off the impending rise of Xoriat from the purple chasm....Ia! Ia! -- T. |

Clans Moulder and Skryre favor Corruption of Flesh and Bones of Steel, respectively. In fact, one COULD imagine an Eberron campaign where the Mourning created a new type of glowing, green "Dragonshard" that altered rats who had gnawed on the stuff... - Ron ^*^ |

| Ront Iron-Roar04-09-07, 09:14 PM | Xelbuu'Tos, The Lord of Many Shadows. Xelbuu'Tos is an enigmatic outsider possessing power over the essence shadow. His legion of followers consists of an endless number of Cloakers, Cloakerlords, Ephermal Hangmen, and numerous other shadow-spawned monstrosities. Xelbuu'Tos resembles a normal Daelkyr in all respects save for his cobalt colored skin, midnight hair, and his pitchblack eyes. His usual attire consists of an unusually large cloakerlord possessing an array of spells it uses for the benefit of its master. Another interesting trait the Daelkyr possesses is the fact he has more then one shadow. His shadowy duplicates forming a pinwheel of darkness that constantly shifts and fades around him. Xelbuu'Tos is currently locked beneath the continent of Xen'drik and thus becoming one of the continents many dark secrets. It is believed he is the entity behind the assaults on the Umbragen Drow. Though some believe that the dark entity could possibly be the source of the Shadow energy the drow venerate. |
| Melvin the Mediocre04-10-07, 10:24 AM | I think of the Stained One as a subtle corruptor - staining the minds and souls of his victims / followers. I have him pegged as the corrupting influence that drove Mordain the Fleshweaver from his house and most of civilization. Through subtle influence, The Stained One drives Mordain to furthering his work in the lands above Khyber. |

| Daydreamer04-10-07, 07:37 PM | Mordain is discussed briefly in the eberron campaign setting, in the section on droaam. Addtionally several dragonshard articles make reference to him. |

The unethical experiments he pursued got him banished from his house and college. |
