| Elliot2205-06-07, 11:12 AM | This one thread could go into three different ones, but I will just post them all here, since they are based around a class. 1) Does a Psionic Artificer from Magic of Eberron retain the "Craft Homunculus" Feat? 2) Can a Psionic Artificer (or a Psionic Character with the Scribe Tattoo feat) Scribe a Tattoo on a Homunculus? 3) Can a Artificer who owns the Homunculus with a Tattoo scribed (if you can scribe a Homunculus with a Tattoo) active the Tattoo from a distance, if the Artificer is the one in control of it? Which then would say if the Homunculus can't have the tattoo scribed on it, can the artificer have the tattoo and give the ability of the tattoo to the Homunculus.. Cause isn't one the Animal Partnership (Familiar, Companion, Mount) able to send spells through there Partner at some point? Help? Oh, and if a question needs clairfing, just let me know and I'll see if I can claify. |

A creature must have an appropriate physical surface on which to scribe the pattern (thus, incorporeal creatures or creatures with impermanent flesh, such as fire elementals, cannot use psionic tattoos). That includes things made of metal that would be etching 3. it would have to activate the tat itself so it would have to tap it if you want to give your homunculous powers take imp homunculous and add infusion storing |
| Elliot2205-06-07, 10:32 PM | Okay, but is there an infusion that mimics Psionics? Or an infusion that can increase my Homunculus' hide checks (yes, I'm making him a hider) |
| Dragom05-09-07, 02:40 AM | That first level one? The one you should have copied down in your quick reference sheet becuase it make combat UMD checks plausible at low level? |
| Millenia05-09-07, 03:06 AM | Okay, but is there an infusion that mimics Psionics? Or an infusion that can increase my Homunculus' hide checks (yes, I'm making him a hider) There's the Chameleon power you can scribe into a tattoo for your homunculi. Otherwise... |
| Elliot2205-09-07, 04:49 PM | Allright, I thought there was a power like that, but I havn't been home to look at my books. So, to understand this, I would scribe a tattoo on myself or create a djore or something of Chameleon then use the power on my Homunculus as the target... Something that occured to me in the first repliers post was, he said writing on a Homunculus (of certain breeds) would be considered etching, could you etch a schema on a homunculus if you had the Etch Schema feat? I know, I'm weird, but I think it would be cool to have youe homunculus have a few new tricks up its sleeve that arn't from the original creation or Improved Homuculus feat. |
| Phalo05-10-07, 01:58 AM | I am not sure if you could etcha schema on a iron defender. But if you could you would have to use the power not the ID It doesn't have a UMD. On a side note UMD would be a cross cass skill of a single class Psionic artificer. And you could not meet the UMD requirements to emulate a spell |
| Elliot2205-10-07, 09:08 AM | Yes, but could I substitue the Use Magic Device check for USe Psionic Device (I think that is what I get as a Psionic Artificer) to emulate a power instead of a spell. I would just adjust the feat to work for psionic abilities instead of spells. |
| UnderworldLord05-10-07, 09:48 AM | I would hazard the guess that if you play a psionic artificer, and scribe a psionic tattoo, you would require Use Psionic Device, which you get instead of UMD. I'm not looking at my books, just recalling from memory. But don't most (non-offensive) psionic powers have a target of self? Thus your homunc could have it on him, freeing up space for better ones on you. Also, why wouldn't a homunc be able to be ordered to activate the tattoo? If you just want that remote control feeling I understand, but it makes perfectly rules-logical (oxymoron!) sense to just have the homunc tap it under certain circumstances. As for etch schema... I'd probably say having one on your iron defender would be more of a bbeg's plot device than something a PC does. Then again, I also allow for persons who use their XP, money, and blood to have ownership of homuncli transferred from the actual creator to that person, so I could just be looney. |

Yes you get use Psionic Device instead of Use Magic Device, which was a very good use of memory. I was reading the different rules for Scribe Tattoo and such before I posted this, and it said that the person who scribes the tattoo on another is the one who chooses what the tattoo does, not the user. So that is why I wasn't sure if a homunculus counted as something legitiment to e scribed on. The reason I wasn't sure if it could activate it is because it is a construct and normally takes orders, which my logic percieved, that you could telepathically give it the order to active the tattoo and then once activated give it another order based on the tattoo.. My reason for saying could you etch on it, is because the first poster said " 2. A creature must have an appropriate physical surface on which to scribe the pattern (thus, incorporeal creatures or creatures with impermanent flesh, such as fire elementals, cannot use psionic tattoos). That includes things made of metal that would be etching Which made Etch Schema come to mind, my only thing is I don't have my book with Etch Schema yet, I can see it today finally. So I'm not sure how the spells would work if I etched them onto the creature. I thank you all for your input though, it is greatly apperciated. |
| wolffman00705-10-07, 01:15 PM | regarding the craft homunculus ability i was actually just going to post that same question myself i disagree w/ Phalo for the simple reason a psionic artificer cannot emulate spells & ALL homunculus's require spells to create them, so by that they cannot create any at all, which sucks as a psi artificer would keep the craft homunculus class ability, as there is nothing noted in the psi arty section about it in MOE. im thinking of letting my player that is looking at playing one, to insead create a psi-crystal, yes i know its kind of a bad trade off, but there is no errata & psionic characters dont have anything equivelant constructs, except the psi-crystal any other ideas/thoughts/comments would be apprecited |
| Phalo05-10-07, 01:33 PM | You could substitute out powers for the effect of the spells you need mind link for sending Remote Viewing for arcane eye Duo dimensional Claw for keen edge |
