What are DM's views on Aberrant marks? Since they used to be so powerful and have now kind of been placated, a fun plot-hook could be used even on one of your PC's with an Aberrant mark... possibly allowing them feat progression at a slower pace than regular ones. Myself, I haven't had a chance to read all of the supplements, so there could very well already exist these options, but if not, I would like to hear a DM's perspective on this. Just a thought for a campaign-specific plot-line...

Thanks,
Aeth

P.S. as an after-thought, I guess this should have been put in a feats section, but I'll justify it by saying that it pertains to racial plot-hooks and character development.

There is a feat progression for the Aberrant Dragonmarks in the Dragonmarked supplement book. If you need a prebuilt bad guy I would recommend this (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20070416a) guy or at least using the PrC that he has. As for aberrant heirs as plot devices they are great, at least if you need some slightly crazy bitter and partly insane person up to no good for no good reason.

I've always been intrigued by the idea of a plotline using abberrant marks. A progression of feats might work well, but I'd be unsure how to implement the power level. Personally, if a player of mine wanted to use an Abberrant mark I'd give it to them as a storyline reward (ie. their character would probably have slightly less magical items then others and instead have a cool power their character could use).

Another way to do it is to just say the player doesn't have full control of it and turn it into a storyline thing, the true potential is only reached when you say it is.

Ah, okay, thank you both for your input. As a PC, I have thought to make an aberrant dragon-marked character for our Eberron DM solely because he's new to the job and any helpful plot-twists are invaluable. Also, manifesting them in strange and unique ways are fun as well...

You should remember that all dragonmarks even the aberrant ones manifests under periods of tremendous stress. So having the mark either during a battle with a BBEG or after (as that is when most people level up) is always a possibility, and it should give you some hooks to how and when you manifest your mark. And also remember that higher level aberrant marks hurts so much when used that you might end up stunned or something similar.

Yep, sometimes I'll take the mark and then use it for the first time when it's really needed, and that's when it manifests itself. Think that if you took feats like toughness or endurance could be used as a flavor-cushion to be able to deal with such tremendous pain?

I cant go to much into detail on this in fear of breaking the code of conduct. But I think I can tell you that you need a fortitude save. So feats that enhance this save should really help.

PS: If this is in violation of the code inform me and I will take it down at once.

Ah, alright, I thought you were talking more in a flavor sense about the pain... alright that makes sense. 'Nough said. ^^
