I have a changeling warmage that is in the works for my buddy's campaign, and I'm wondering if I should take the recaster PrC from Races of Eberron. I haven't met the metamagic requirements yet, but my 'mage is at level 4 now, and has the Knowledge arcana fulfilled, and will have the have the Spellcraft requirement fulfilled next level.

I'm just wondering if it's worth taking as a warmage, and I'll more than likely drop my Quick Draw feat for a metamagic one if I get some positive responses. Heck, I'll probably drop Quick Draw anyways, as I think about it, a warmage probably shouldn't rely too much on a weapon, right?

Yes. Recaster is awesome. One of the keys to really making the most of your mid-level warmage is to increase your spell list as they can cast any spell on their list at any point in time. The free metamagic and expanded spell list are pretty strong.

Another favorite is Sand Shaper.

These days I'm looking heavily at ...
Rogue 1 / Warmage 4 / Unseen Seer + Recaster

Just an inkling right now ...

Are there any spells in particular that you would suggest? I'm good at building stuff and putting it all together, but I'm just not that great at choosing appropriate things that make my characters better. Obviously, thinking that I could combat rush with a character who should really stay back and sling spells was a big mistake of mine.

I have a player who just can't get it through his head that warmages are not a combination of "warrior" and "mage". They do not belong in melee, as he keeps trying to do. At least you realized it yourself.

What a warmage lacks is the ability to defend himself. Aside from destroying his enemies before they recognize him as a threat, they've got no defense.

Look for spells that increase your mobility, such as fly, dimension door, etc. Some of the best defensive spells are on the cleric list. Since recaster lets you pick from any class list, you'd be a fool not to pick up the highest level cure spell you can get. If you're really looking for every mechanical advantage, look at the bard, ranger, and paladin spell lists: many of the spells unique to those classes are powerful for their spell level because those classes gain spells at later level than you.

The consensus by most is to take the Recaster levels very late in the build so that you can get the highest level spells you can with the ability.

Popular choices are healing spells or good buff spells.

ya, the recaster gives is all good. On the list of spells to consider are, pretty well any healing spell, and, for me, Divine Power. Even a long range blaster can handle having a BaB equal to his HD.

What if I don't have Recaster yet? What good wizard evo spells are there that I don't have? I figure the warmage smashes stuff real good without Advanced Learning, but as I said, I'm not terribly clever with choosing things. Now since I'm only 4th level, that means I've only got 0-level or 1-level spells to work with choice-wise. Man, it'd be nice if I wasn't such a dunce sometimes.
