Sorry for the question but I don't have my Eberron books at hand and I wouldn't have them for a week or more so I can't look at it...

My question is: Can a shifter have and aberrant dragonmark? I know they can't have "normal" dragonmarks... but what about an aberrants one?

I know it might be something weird but could it be possible?

Thanks a lot for the answers

No. Aberrant Dragonmark requires you to belong to a Dragonmarked Race, specified as human, dwarf, elf, gnome, halfling, half-elf and half-orc. Shifters, changelings and kalashtar cannot gain any dragonmark - true or aberrant - despite their part-human ancestry.

Do not read on if you play in any published adventures:

There is one adventure - can't remember which one, don't buy adventures in general, and got this information from somewhere on this forum - which forces an aberrant mark on any character, including non-dragonmarked races. Still, at character creation, your answer remains "no".

Houseruling is always possible, but if you chose that road, bear in mind that a marked shifter will be so exceptional that the Chamber, the Twelve, the Lords of Dust, and anyone with an interest in Marks or the Prophecy will be after you, for extermination or experimentation, but it won't be pleasant ;)

But again:
By Raw - no
With houseruling - everything is possible anyway.

The adventure is eyes of the lich queen

Or, as long as we're discussing officially supported ways to break the letter and spirit of the rules, add this to your background "I used to be a <insert race here>, but was reincarnated as a Shifter". There, you can now have any true dragonmark you want.

Thank you all!

It's for one of my players that always wants to be the weirdest thing possible and has asked me about it.

First I say NO! but after that I realised that this could be a good hook for adventures and I'm thinking how could it be possible and what kind of impact would it have if it's known

First I say NO! but after that I realised that this could be a good hook for adventures and I'm thinking how could it be possible and what kind of impact would it have if it's knownIt depends, mainly on if the player is mature enough to play a character that has pretty much the entire setting out to get them. The dragonmarked houses locking them away in a deep dark research facility (ala Area 51) for the rest of their life would be about the best end they could hope for, unless you count a quick and only moderately painful death by dragon as being better than a long life of being a guinea pig.

It depends, mainly on if the player is mature enough to play a character that has pretty much the entire setting out to get them.

Also make sure you ask the rest of the group, and tell them what a marked shifter in their ranks means.

The other players might also feel neglected if too much attention is focused on the weird-character player. His mark will be, if not the focus of the campaign itself, a very big part of it. Other players might feel themselves neglected or short-changed, accessories or sidekicks to the aberrant-marked shifter. You'll have to find a way to avoid doing that, and make sure everyone in the group gets their due. But if you work it out, it could make for a very interesting campaign!

Yeah, this definitely would not be something that would restrict itself to that one character. Everybody is going to be sucked in. Its sort of like having a Kalashtar in the party, eventually its going to turn into a Dreaming Dark game, if you like it or not.

Not necessarily, but your point is well made. Sadly when players want something totally 'out there' it runs the risk of drawing the plot around them. Sometimes this is intentional on their part, sometimes it isn't.

But Eyes of the Lich Queen is good - I have a shifter in it and the dragonmark is ... handy ...
