| igigi05-15-07, 11:59 AM | I have a sidewinder monk 4 psychic warrior 1 character (shifter) in Eberron. My question is: If my character takes another levels in the psychic warrior class, will its sneak attack damage - from the sidewinder monk class - stack with his psionic class levels too? help appreciated ;) |
| Cifer05-15-07, 04:02 PM | What's a sidewinder monk and where does it come from? |
| Vharuck05-15-07, 07:13 PM | Do you seem to think Psychic Warriors get sneak attack? I don't know the sidewinder monk either (in the future, if you're citing non-core material please note the source for us uneducated folk :P). |
| Teron Gorefiend05-15-07, 08:17 PM | The sidewinder monk is a variant class from Dragon; one of its features, obviously, is sneak attack. The psychic warrior class doesn't grant sneak attack, so you don't get more sneak attack. You gain what the class description says a second-level psychic warrior gains - no more, no less. |

True, but the OP is using a feat, tashalatora, that allows psionic classes to stack with monk levels for certain abilities. I'm not sure how it would interact with the sidewinder varient. |

I'm not sure how it would interact with the sidewinder varient. Tashalatora, IIRC, specifically states what the levels stack to determine. The sneak attack is not included in this list, and so it does not per RAW actually stack. However, the use of the sidewinder monk is obviously a houserule, so if the sneak attack replaces another monk ability and that ability is stated as being stackable with Tashalatora, I'd say that sneak attack damage would count as well. |

My dilemma was that in the case of the sidewinder monk - who can use the sneak attack damage WITH its usual monk unarmed damage - can this type of damage viewed as beneficiant of the tashalatora feat - Secrets of Sarlona :D - and in this way, are those sw monk and p warrior levels stacking? Thanks for your help, the blur is less now ;) If anybody has an official answer, it is also welcomed :D |

| igigi05-18-07, 04:13 PM | What does the sneak attack damage progression of the sidewinder monk replace from the regular PHB monk? I have checked it, it is not very coherent. It replaces most of the time (lvl 6, 12, 18) the slow fall effect, sometimes other various features (e.g. lvl 3 still mind), and sometimes (lvl 9) it is a "bonus" thing... So I am quite unsure :weep: /I am afraid it is nit stacking :weep: :weep: / |
| Vharuck05-18-07, 04:41 PM | I would say not, as those things don't stack with Tashalatora. If you allowed the sneak attack damage to stack, this feat would become much more useful for a sidewinder monk than a regular monk hands-down. |

| AllWillFall2Me05-20-07, 07:04 PM | Part of the difficulty, IIRC, is that, as the OP sees, there is no clear distinction of what the ability replaces. They removed some abilities, and put in new ones, but not strictly on a 1-to-1 ratio, so the idea is, as I see it, "Is the sneak attack damage from sidewinder monk enough of an integral part of being a sidewinder monk that Talashtora should advance it?"And I'd say not. The abilities it advances are all still part of the Sidewinder, IIRC (don't know which Dragon, so it's hard to check), so the feat should stand. I would try and talk to your DM about another feat for the sneak attack or venom strike (it gets that, right?) abilities progression. Maybe have a couple Psionic feat Pre-reqs/known powers. |
| igigi05-21-07, 04:17 PM | Reference: The sidewinder monk is in dragon magazine 331 p. 89. |
| igigi05-21-07, 04:26 PM | The exact text in question is: Sneak attack (Ex): At 3rd lvl the sidewinder monk gains the ability to sneak attack, as the rogue ability. /And this is where the hard part comes:/ Her bonus damage increases every levels thereafter. /I hope this citation is not against the rules of the site, because it is partial and has only a clarifying will/ So I am lost again a little bit :( |

Your DM is, of course, free to house-rule otherwise, but you pointed out yourself that that would be unbalanced since you wouldn't be giving anything up in exchange. |
