The Newest Dragonmarked has a new PrC, making use of Living Spells, I love it, and in the "Becoming" a Spell Sovereign part it lists Warlocks as one of the primary classes to get in... and yet looking at the Prereques there is no way to my mind that a Warlock could get in... am I missing something? How does a warlock gain the ability to cast 3 conjuration (summoning) spells one of which that must be 3rd level? I looked at all the invocations and found TWO possible candidates Summon Swarm and Hungry Darkness, but that isn't three and that's operating under the assumption that the DM will rule that since Hungry Darkness "acts" as a darkness with a swarm of bats in it that he will rule that it is a conj (sum). Are there other Invocations that those listed in the Complete Arcane?

I'm sorry, but where is this prestige class located?

I don't have my CAr on me but I seem to remember that there was an invocation that worked as summon swarm, and also one that functioned as an insect plague spell, that, together with hungry darkness, or if your DM is feeling generous Dark Discorpration, though I don't think I would consider that a summoning spell.

It's in Dragon issue 357... you are correct there is Summon Swarm, Hungry Darkness, and I had missed Insect Plague, so exactly three Conj (sum) but man, that means waiting until 11th level before qualifying for the PrC... that's a long time. Hrm... but possible... are there any other Invocations out there? Might have to wait that long anyway as you have to be able to take improved familiar, and just to qualify for "obtain familiar" you have to be 3rd level caster... so it's going to be a proccess... *sigh*

Have you tried Complete Mage yet? I'm not sure if there's more in there but I would check...maybe even in the other complete books that were made after arcane...

Dragon Magic had some Warlock invocations in it too. I don't remember if any were summoning ones though.

And yes, as written, Warlocks can't truely qualify for the PRC, only if your DM is letting the summoning invocations count toward it. Since they couldn't use some of the abilities (turning spell into living spell for instance) it isn't a huge suprise.

The complete arcane specifically covers PrC's and warlocks. It says:

"A warlock cannor qualify for prestige classes with spellcasting level requirements, as he never actually learns to cast spells. However, prestige classes with caster level requirements, such as acolite of the skin, are well suited for the warlock." - p 18

The problem is that the only 2 books that have PrC's that a warlock can take based on that rule, are Complete mage and complete arcane. NO other resource allows for them.

In my opinion this is just sloppy rules writing, and there seem to be many arcane PrC's that would be great for a warlock, but because of that specific wording, prevent entry. My friends simply houseruled that with Dm approval the requirement is changed form something like "cast 2nd level arcane spells" to "arcane caster level 4th" (since thats when sorcerers and other spontanious casters get 2nd level spells).

But by raw, despite it being recommended in that book, it's not possible.

Yeah, that isn't a problem at all in my group either we have the same house rule, the main problem is getting the conjuration(summoning) part done, which it seems we will be creating a least invocation that fits the bill. Was hoping for some official content but *sigh* Thank you all for your help. There were invocations in both complete mage and dragon magic but none that were what I was looking for.

I'd suggest the crawling eye or disembodied hand lesser invocations from the complete mage along with summon swarm and hungry darkness from complete arcane. That would (in my opinion) cover the prereques for that class, though to be honest I'd be leary as a DM of allowing it because it is stretching a bit (since you really only have one true spell like ability thats specifically "conjuration (summoning)" available to you before you get greater invocations)
