Talenta Spirit Warrior

The Talenta Spirit Warrior Hit Die: d10
Level BAB Fort Ref Will Special
1st +0 +2 +0 +2 Dino-touched Rager, Bestial Aspect
2nd +1 +3 +0 +3 Wildshape, Scent
3rd +2 +3 +1 +3 Pounce, Bestial Hide +1
4th +3 +4 +1 +4 Bestial Aspect II
5th +3 +4 +1 +4 One With the Beast, Bestial Hide +2

Requirements: To qualify to become a Talenta Spirit Warrior, a character must fulfill all of the following criteria.
Race: Halfling
BAB: +7
Skills: +10 Survival, +10 Handle Animal
Feats: Track
Special: Rage or Frenzy, Wild Empathy, Animal Companion (must be a dinosaur), the character must perform a sacred “binding ritual” in which they, along with their tribe, sacrifice their animal companion in a respectful way, perform the proper prayer to Balinor, after which this animal is used in a giant feast for the entire tribe, and it is used to fashion the character’s new (if any) sacred hunting mask, forever binding their two souls as one, allowing the Halfling to become “one with the beast and the hunt” in Balinor’s eyes.

Class Skills: Talenta Beastmasters have the same class skills as the standard Barbarian class.
Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier (or four times this number as a beginning character).

Class Features: All of the following are class features of the Talenta.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Talenta Beastmasters gain no new proficiencies in any weapons or armor.

Dino-touched Rager (Ex): Your spirit begins to blend with that of the animal companion that you chose as your ‘ritual beast.’ When raging you take on a more animalistic appearance, increasing in size, darkening in color, with a more feral aspect. This ability functions just as the barbarian’s rage in the PHB, except as noted. This ability replaces the character’s abilities to Rage and/or Frenzy, so whenever they would normally enter a rage and/or frenzy, they enter this state instead, increasing their size to medium and adding +2 Str to their old Rage stat bonuses. Levels in this class stack with levels in Barbarian to determine how many times per day they can enter a rage. For instance, a character with 6 levels of Barbarian and 5 levels of Talenta Spirit Warrior can rage 3 times per day, though he does not gain the Barbarian’s Greater Rage ability. If this same character were to take 3 levels of Frenzied Berserker, this would increase to 5 times per day, and this takes the place of their Frenzy.

Bestial Aspect (Su): Depending on the Ritual Beast you selected, you take on an aspect of said beast while raging.
Bipedal beast: The muscles in your legs become extra strong, and you gain a +10 ft. increase to your land speed.
Quadruped beast: You grow ferocious fangs and gain a bite attack that deals 1d6 points of damage.
Winged beast: You grow sharp claws and gain two claw attacks that deal 1d4 points of damage.

Wildshape (Su): Functions exactly as the Druid ability, except only dinosaur forms, unless you already possess levels in Druid that allow you to take other forms. This class’s Wildshape stacks with druid levels to determine how often the character can Wildshape and the size they can attain, but not the different types of creature.

Scent (Ex): Because of your blending with the beast, the hunt comes more naturally to you. Even while not raging , you gain the scent special ability. (See page 314 of the Monster Manual)

Pounce (Ex): While in a rage, the TsW gains the Pounce special ability. (See page 313 of the Monster Manual)

Bestial Aspect II(Su): Depending on the Ritual Beast you selected, you take on an aspect of said beast while raging.
Bipedal beast: You gain the Powerful Charge feat (see page 57 of ECS). If you already possess this feat, treat yourself as one size category larger.
Quadruped beast: If you successfully hit an enemy with your bite attack you latch onto the opponent's body and tear its flesh. This automatically deals an extra 1d6+1 1/2 x your str. modifier damage as the Rend ability.
Winged beast: You gain a +5 to jump checks, and you gain a special leap attack that allows you to jump as part of a move and if you land in a square threatening your opponent's, you can make one attack adding your jump check -15 to damage. You jump check must be sufficient enough to place you in this square and the distance cleared must be more than 15 feet.

Bestial Hide (Su): When raging, you become more of a blend of beast and Halfling, your skin toughening enough to protect you, giving you a +1 increase to Natural Armor. This bonus increases to +2 at level 5.

One With The Beast (Su): Your spirit and your Ritual Beast’s spirit fully blend into one, allowing you to become one with the beast when raging. While in a rage, you become Large sized, your rage stat bonuses increase as thus: +2 Str, +2 Con, +2 Dex. Also, you fully take on the appearance of a dinosaur/Halfling hybrid, with scaly skin, fangs, clawed hands and feet, etc. Giving you a +2 on intimidate checks while raging.

Requirements: To qualify to become a Talenta Spirit Warrior, a character must fulfill all of the following criteria.
Race: Halfling
BAB: +9

A minimum entry level of 9th level is sort of high. 6-7 is a more common entry level for prestige classes.

Also, considering the fact that you need such a high rank in Handle Animal (which you'll still want to use), and the idea is that you become closer to your animal companion, killing them to enter the Prestige Class seems kind unintuitive and a downer. Many Rangers and Druid players can get pretty close to their Animal Companions. I know I do, especially when I played a Talenta Ranger.

Instead of replacing it, a simpler explanation might be to say, "When Raging, in addition to normal benefits, you also gain >bonuses here<". Frenzy and Rage are treated as the same ability for all intents and purposes, so there's no need to add Frenzy stuff in there.

I actually think it would be pretty cool if you used these as the basis of 3 different Dino-Touch Rager progressions. Like how the Weretouched Master has different paths for Shifting. I do feel that the Winged Beast should get some kind of flight/gliding/jumping, etc ability though.

This is kind of superfluous. Also, if you can actually become a dinosaur, it kind of steals from the thunder of becoming like one. Also, with the minimum BaB of +9, not many people are going to take levels in Druid, which would then mandate that they could only enter it at level 10, so stacking it won't happen very often.

Bestial Hide (Su): When raging, you become more of a blend of beast and Halfling, your skin toughening enough to protect you, giving you a +1 increase to Natural Armor. This bonus increases to +2 at level 5.

These sound good. Scent's kind of a powerful ability to permanently have though. It does mesh well with the Tracking ability though.

Hunter’s Mark (Ex): This ability allows you to designate one creature in every encounter, whenever you hit that creature with a melee attack, they suffer a –2 AC penalty either until your next turn or until an ally attacks them. Consecutive strikes do not stack.

This one's kind of superfluous too. The idea of the Prestige Class is that when raging, your character takes on the traits of dinosaurs. It'd be best if all your abilities centered around this.

Now it really sounds like you're going for a Weretouched Master style class here. I don't see the shame in using that as a template for your Prestige Class.

ok so i made a few alterations to level 4 and i took the BAB requirement down a bit.

I am thinking about taking out the sacrifice part, that is drastic. Perhaps if they can attain a new companion?

The reason i want it to replace Rage/Frenzy is because they act seperately, you can be in either a rage or a frenzy, or both, and it's too much to keep track of. Also, the whole thing with if you take damage at all, you have to make a Will save or go into a frenzy.

The wildshape is kind of them not yet harnessing the ability to combine both forms, and the hybrid form at level 5 is superior, especially if you don't have levels in druid. Besides you can't become a large or larger dinosaur unless yo ualready have enough, or proceed to take levels in druid anyway.

-Took out hunter's mark
-Took cues from weretouched master

how about now?

If the person doesn't want to deal with Frenzy and Rage or Rage-like abilities stacking, they won't be taking any levels in Frenzied Berserker. However, if they do take levels in Frenzied Berserker, chances are very high that they do want Frenzy, and not just a slot to convert into another Rage or Rage-like ability.

It still sort of feels weird to me. They're trying to be more like a dinosaur, but actually becoming a dinosaur turns out to be weaker than just taking on a few of their traits. If the Dinosaur is stronger than the Halfling why is Halfling + Dinosaur stronger than pure Halfling?

Again, it kind of feels superfluous.

eh i think it kinda goes with the vibe of the class though, and it would suck for those druids who do take levels in this class and basically forget about everything they used to have, but if you have any other suggestions for what to use there, i'm open to it?

How about making something in the class dependant on the power of the Companion you sacrificed? Right now, it's somewhat irrelevant whether they got the companion by dipping into druid for a level or they took 10 levels of ranger. What would you think of making the level of the companion stack with the barbarian levels to see whether they get Greater and Mighty Rage?

How about making the ability to change into their Selected beast the final ability of the set?

So far, the rage abilities make them progressively more like the creature, but they still have some Halfling traits.

At 5th level of the class, when Raging, they actually become the spirit of the creature, taking on it's general appearance, ability to speak its language, etc. The bipedal form resembles a Megaraptor or something similar and gets some bonuses to speed scores, a buffed up naturl attack and something like an extra attack when charging. The Quadruped resembles a Triceratops or something similar and gets a more powerful bite/gore/bullrush and more AC/DR, while the flying form resembles a Pteranodon or similar animal and gets flight movement and some kind of diving attack.

However, they can't use their weapons, items, cast spells, etc. Everything they were wearing/carrying merges into their new form.

Now transforming into the animal is not only in some ways mechanically superior to the hybrid form, it also completes the idea that the character was trying to transcend their Halfling state and attain the state of their selected beast.

........................................ ........................................ ......................

I wouldn't worry too much about Druids. If they took the 4 levels required in Druid to get the Wildshape ability (taking track as a feat), then levels in Barbarian for a higher BaB and Rage, they would have to wait until level 9 (Druid 4/Barbarian4) to start their first level of the PRC. They'd have to pretty much give up on their spellcasting progression, and with restriction to Druid weapons, and the reduced BaB, their rage wouldn't be as scary. Also, they'd suffer from a bad case of MAD, since Druids usually use physical ability scores a dump stats and needs high mental scores, while the Barbarian is the opposite.

It's just going to make for a mess of a character mechanics-wise.

A quicker and more preferable path would be a mixture of Ranger and Barbarian, with at least 4 levels of Ranger, allowing them to enter the class at level 8 and do so with a higher BaB, access to all martial weapons, and Favored Enemy bonuses, and more complimentary ability scores since both classes favor physical stats as the primary.

Of course the fact that you must multiclass to take this prestige class could be a problem for Halflings since their favored class is Rogue. It'd be impossible for them to take this class without suffering multiclass exp penalties- unless in your game, Talenta Halflings take Barbarian, Ranger, or Druid as a favored class.

Why would that be the case? Your example build was Ranger4/Barbarian3 - I don't see any penalties there...

Oy, you're right. None for the Barbarian/Druid route either.

Alright, how about this:
-Take out Wildshape
-Move Bestial Hide down to levels 2 and 4 instead of 3 and 5
-One with the beast at level 3 instead of 5
-at level five, you completely become your totem beast while raging, a la Bear Warrior. Maybe add in a treat for each respective beast type.

sound good?

I love this PRC hey take a look into the martial compendiums new manuver links and look for a Tiger claw stance that mimics the rage class feature that should count because it also mimics the rages per day based of of you initiator lvl take tiger blooded with this and rage you will be doing some serious damage and knocking around.
