| Alleria02-26-08, 11:47 PM | I am working on a new concept for a Warforged in a game I am working on. I have the fluff background worked out but would like some opinions on the balance issues of this new 'race' of Forged. This is a Stealth Specialist forged that I am introducing to my own homebrew game. I am unsure about how to balance a new race and I don't want to make something too powerful. Then again I do not want to gimp a PC with a weak race. I do know there is a Warforged Scout, but it does not fit the flavor or the background of the character as it stands. Here is a rough rendition of the race. Please post constructive criticism and I'll make the necessary changes. The Shadowforged Ability modifiers: -2 Str, -2 Con, -2 Cha, +2 Dex, +2 Wis Living Construct type remains the same. Shadowforged are Medium size. The Composite Plating will be removed in favor of a required Body Feat [Shadow-Wrapped Body]. Light Fortification will be removed in favor of Darkvision 60'. The Natural Slam attack will be removed for flavor reasons. Required Feat - [Shadow-Wrapped Body]: Prereq: Warforged, 1st Level This Feat gives +2 Deflection Bonus to Armor Class with the Max Dexerity Bonus of +8. You are prohibited from wearing any type of armor, but are able to enchant your body as with any body feat. |

After looking at it and thinking, maybe this would be a little better feat to handle it, me thinks. :D Shadow-Treated Plating [Warforged] You were build smaller and quicker than others of your kind. And your composite plating was treated with chemicals and magic that causes it to absorb some light and sound, but also weakens the plating. Prereq: Warforged, Dex 16+, 1st Level Benefit: Your armor remains at +3 and you are considered to be wearing light armor with a +8 maximum dexterity bonus to AC, no penalty to skill checks and 5% arcane spell failure chance. In addition, Warforged with this feat recieve Darkvision 60' and as well as a +4 skill check bonus to Hide and Move Silently because of the multiple chemicles and spells applied to the steel upon forging. |

Here's the fluff, though he's unique: When Cannith South started experimenting with different kinds of airships towards the end of the Last War, Merrix decided to head a project to create a shadow ship, connected to the plane of Shadow and capable of traveling with an effect similar to the shadow walk spell. However, the artificers soon discovered that they weren't able to control the shadow elementals/energies in the way a heir of Lyrandar could control a bound elemental, and instead they went to work create a special kind of intermediary. Out of this desire, Shade was created. A warforged imbued with the essence of Shadow, it was constructed to complete the shadow vessel House Cannith wanted to perfect. However, the project was cancelled and Shade was stored in an extra-dimensional locker for years. There he had visions of an entity, which he would later claim was the Shadow itself that he communed with. When a group of thieves stole the unmarked crate that Shade was stored in and unwittingly released him into the depths of Sharn, Shade literally spent months in the shadows, waiting and listening, watching and waiting, learning the secrets of everyone that came past. Eventually Shade was ready to reveal himself and found the Temple to the Dark Six down the Cogs associated with the Daask. Shade claimed then and continues to claim that he is a physical manifestation of the Shadow on Eberron: a creature of darkness, magic, and secrets. Shade feels incomplete: he knows he was created with an Other (the shadow vessel), though he doesn't know what this other was or what has happened to it. In order to start finding information about the secret Cannith project, Shade would need money, a lot of money, or secrets to trade in turn. Thus, Shade has begun a career as an information broker. He plans to keep collecting secrets in the shadows, watching and waiting, until one day he can discover the other part of his self and finally feel complete. |

| Ehtiar03-01-08, 06:09 PM | There's also the "Dark Creature" template thats in Tome of Shadows which is a slightly watered down version of the "Shadow" template. The "Umbral" one from LM is geared as the undead shadow types rather then linking to actual shadow. |
| Alleria03-02-08, 04:50 PM | The Dark Creature template is similar to the concept, but I'm trying to avoid the +1 LA. I think that I could add +10' speed bonus without being over the top though. Especially given that I' taking away the Slam Attack and giving nothing in return. I rather like your input ColtFlenn. It seems to fit the bill for the Body Feat, without being over the top. |
