I noticed on the cover of Keith Baker's third novel, The Dreaming Dark Book 3: the Gates of Knight, that our friendly neighborhood warforged has not 3 bulky warforged fingers, but five thin humanoid fingers!

I don't know if this is an error on the part of the artist, or if it was Mr. Baker that wanted him to have five fingers, but does anyone have any insight to this?

I've always thought warforged should have five humanoid fingers in the first place, instead of their TMNT hands. =/

As far as I recall, Pierce's hands were no different than the typical Warforged's hands. The artist screwed-up. It happens a lot.

That piece of art was not one of my particular favorites even before you pointed that out. Every time I look at Pierce in that picture, I think of the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz. Then I think of some strange spaceman out of some 1930s film. The one thing I don't think of is a Warforged.

It could be a battlefist on the hand (or hands if it's both). It's a semi-easy component to get that has five kinda small fingers on it.

I thought you'd be more weirded out by the Built in Quiver.

Pierce is a DM PC. He can do whatever he wants. :)
No but seriously Pierce is "special" in the books. He clearly wasn't mass produced the way other warforged were so his creators (and we all know who those are) could have created him with 5 fingers.

It's not actually a rule (As in RAW) they must have 3 fingers is it? If a PC wanted their warforged to have 5 fingers I wouldn't care.

This is true. Yet, I bet if anyone cared enough to check the three books, there'd be at least one reference to his three-fingered warforged hand. Maybe not, but I wouldn't bet against it.

I really think this is simply a case of the artist not being familiar with Eberron, rather than a case of him being so familiar that he chose to include a battlefist or a unique NPC version warforged.

Its just an artistic liscence mistake/change. You'll also notice that Daine and Lei pretty much change what they look like on each cover as well.

Nope, I didn't tell the artist to draw Pierce with four fingers as opposed to two. While Pierce is an odd warforged in a few ways, this was simply a case of flawed communication.

A few other artists' takes on the Dreaming Dark crew can be found here. (http://www.bossythecow.com/eberronart.htm)

I like those ideas of Lei and Daine a lot more.

I didn't notice the built in quiver, actually. But to tell you the truth, my first warforged character idea was an archer with a built in quiver, so I probably overlooked it without thinking about it, because it's something that makes sense.

Pierce was trained to be an archer, as was the character I was making, so having them built with a quiver that can't be removed actually makes sense.

Yeah, like the cover of the first Dragon Below book that has the psion and Singe with Geth in the haunted Daelkyr ruin.
