Generally speaking, the vast majority of people in the world will use the both standard array for abilities (13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8) and have NPC classes. The elite array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) and PC classes are reserved for PCs and powerful NPCs. I've seen several independent estimates that say only about 5% of the population would have the elite array and levels in PC classes. That's sounds about right to me, so that's what I go by in my games.

But I was thinking...what about warforged? They were built for war, built to be better than humans were before...better, stronger, faster...Anyway, the average warforged is a lvl 1 Fighter, not a lvl 1 Warrior. Since it has a PC class instead of an NPC class, does this mean the average warforged would also have the elite array for its abilities? My opinion is that it would. This makes total sense if warforged were supposed to be superior soldiers; on top of the already useful +2 Con, if they had better stats all around they would be vastly superior to the average human soldier.

This basically throws that 5% estimate out the window as far as warforged were concerned, saying that most (if not all) of them would be exceptional (of course, the other races would still hold to the 5% rule). What are your opinions?

I think (yeah, wierd), though what you're saying makes sense, and they probably would have been trying to make them as good as possible, they were mass producing these things as fast as possible, and so the fact that all warforged dont have all 18s for stats leads me to believe that they might be closer to the average

I'd say certainly that most combat-oriented warforged have PC-classes, and most PC-classed people have the elite array. For instance, whereas among dwarves, warriors outnumber fighters, barbarians, and other such combat-oriented classes, among warforged, fighters, barbarians, etc, outnumber warriors. Average battle-oriented warforged are better combatants than average battle-oriented dwarves.

On the other hand, I don't see any reason to think a warforged created for a more "support"-oriented role would be better than a dwarf in a similar role (after all, warforged as supposed to be war-oriented). So, just as there might be ten dwarf magewrights for every dwarf artificer, it could be that there are ten warforged magewrights for every warforged artificer. Warforged artificers, like their dwarf counterparts, use the elite array, but warforged magewrights, like dwarf magewrights, use the standard array.

It's been mentioned before in other threads, greatly debated in the Cost of Warforged thread in the general section of the Eberron boards. According to the creator of the setting, the "average" (as in most common) warforged uses an elite array and is a 2nd class fighter with the Adamantine Body feat.

They weren't cranked out to replace conscript and commoner soldiers, and there weren't massive ranks of Warforged only units. They were elite troops used in conjunction with others, where hey put their advantages to use: acting as guards when everyone else slept, breaking through enemy defenses, being heavy infantry or shock troops, and stuff like that.
