I want to make a warforged but everything I've read so far seems like the monk would loses the ability to use his armor, cleric only heals half for a cure and those are the two classes I was thinking of using.

Can anyone recommend some basic starting builds for a warforged cleric or monk?

A Warforged Monk can use the standard plating without penalty, but can't take Mithral, Ironwood, or Adamantine Body.

Clerics don't rely much on DEX, so for that one, go Adamantine Body and a 12 (or so) Dex. As soon as feasible, go Battlefist (doesn't impair your spellcasting, IIRC) and Heavy Shield to ramp up your AC. Warforged only recieve half the healing from Conjuration (Healing) spells, so you'll have to invest in Oils of Repair, take the Warforged Domain (which has a couple of Repair spells on it, which opens them up for wand use), or the Magic Domain (also for wanding Repair spells).

In both cases, however, Warforged take Wisdom penalties, which will be slightly troublesome, but not really a true hindrance.

Faiths of Eberron. Also home of the pretty-freakin'-nice Sovereign Speaker Prestige Class.

Races of Eberron also has Unarmored Body, that may be something to consider for the monk you're trying to make.

Some other feats to consider:
Silver Tracery - RoE
Cold Iron Tracery - RoE
Improved Fortification (needs adamantine body) - ECS
Improved Resiliency - RoE
Jaws of Death(? ) - RoE
Improved Damage Reduction (needs adamantine body) - ECS

You don't have to take all of those but those are the better Warforged feats to look at, especially the tracerys for the monk.

Unarmored Body lets you wear armor or robes ... are there any robes that work particularly well for monks? If not, you're better off with the standard plating, I'd think ...

so with damage reduction on a warforged they can only take full damage from adamantine. Do magical weapons bypass that like the magic or silver weapon to hit a werewolf thing? Or the only thing that makes them take full damage that is a weapon is an adamantine one. Or does it even reduce spell blast damage?

Damage reduction generally only reduces the damage from physical attacks. Swords, claws, thrown boulders, stuff like that. If the damage can be classified as Slashing, Bludgeoning, or Piercing, Damage Reduction applies, I think.

DR 4/Adamantine means that an attack from any weapon but one made from Adamantine has its damage reduced by 4. This can negate the damage entirely. Magic weapons, silver weapons, whatever, it doesn't matter if the weapon isn't adamantine. Similarly, DR 5/Slashing means that bludgeoning or piercing weapons, regardless of what they're made of, have their damage reduced by 5. Slashing weapons go right through.

Elemental damage (Fire, Cold, Acid, Sonic, Lightning), such as from a Fireball, Alchemist's fire, pool of acid, whatever, is not stopped by Damage Reduction. Instead, Energy Resistance applies (typically at a higher value).

Damage from other sources (Force from a Magic Missile, dehydration from Horrid Wilting, etc.) is not reduced by any common effects I'm aware of.

If you want to steal and adapt them, FR have some nice Monk clothes....

Actually warforged make great monks (as much as a monk can be classified as 'great' in a game that includes spellcasters).
First, they have -2 Wis, that means -1 to AC; but they can have composite plating, that gives +2 AC and can be enchanted like any armor with all sorts of nice abilities (like heavy fortification).
Secondly, battlefists increase your unarmed damage as if you were one size larger.

As for clerics, I'd stay away from that. Unless you want to play an warforged cleric from a roleplaying perspective. They have a penalty to wisdom and they must rely on other party members/magic items for healing.

What he said, with second kudos to the fact that the standard plating can be magically enhanced like any other suit of armor (silent moves, etc.)

Adopting the other magical items for use as WF componants is not a huge stretch (Boots of Striding & Springing as a componant attached to the feet or the Monk Belt as a special essence or a docent).

I think the composite plating only counts as light armor so it could only support light fortification (which is redundant), besides the improved fortification feat takes a BAB of +6 to meet that prereq (blanking if there are any others right now).

As far as the cleric goes I think any Ebberon cleric can take warforged domain for repair spells, they can still heal for half what they roll anyway, and if the cleric goes into reforged they can heal for full effect after the second level of that prc.

Yes, WF make pretty much hands down the single best LA +0 monk race in the game.

Where did you get the info that light armor only supports Light Fortification?
I have just read the relevant entry in the DMG and I find no mention of this.

As for the cleric, the warforged domain only gives access to 3 repair spells/day at level 20, unless you take the PHB 2 alternate class feature. And if you do you have to prepare healing spells now. You can take levels in reforged, of course, but that means a loss of spells/caster levels.

I thought it was in that entry in the DMG you read, I'll have to re-read it. At the very least it's what I've been going on for as long as 3rd ed games have been going.

For the cleric however one thing you can do is take an item in the magic item compendium that lets you heal whenever you cast a heal spell. Sure it's only half the rated effect but it's still effectively free healing on you.

For taking the Reforged class yeah you do lose just a touch of power by detouring into there but it's not like you get absolutely nothing for it. It was a thought if nothing else.

All warforged start out with light fortification. It's in their racial entry in the ECS. And I agree with Edy warforged make great LA+0 monks, possibly the best in the game. They also make the best barbarians(no fatigue after rage).

I am sorry if my post seemed offensive. It was not my intention. Cleric is one of my favorite classes(on par with arcane/psi-gishes and druids) I have played a warforged cleric of the Silver Flame and apart from providing quite unique roleplay moments (the main reason I wanted this character) it lagged in power quite significantly compared to the average human/dwarf cleric I have played in other campaigns.

Don't worry about it, it's the classic point-counterpoint in a discussion. It'll happen.

And I can imagine a warforged cleric would be interesting to play as something of a change of pace.

If you dont wish to worry about healing yourself, I suggest going Crusader from Tome of Battle. Im currently going to be playing one tomorrow and knowing my luck it will die too lol.

But if you want a cleric, then do what was suggested and go with the Warforged Domain and pick up War as a domain then go into Sovereign speaker. That is if you want to be like Godly lol or something, if you want a melee oriented cleric then go War and Warforged. Then when you get into Sovereign speaker grab Animal :). SHAPECHANGE!!! *drools* :).

I was just looking for another spell that would work well. I forget where it is but I could have sworn I saw a spell that you can cast and turn the warforged caster into a warforged titan. Not sure where it is and I don't remember the name (if anyone knows it please share). I did find a spell in Faiths of Eberron that allows a Warforged cleric to summon a titan, but not become one.

That's some shapechange win if that spell can be found.

Check the spell compendium. "Form of War" or something, if I recall, turns the caster into the aforementioned construct siege-engine of dooooooom.

The first cleric I ever played was a warforged cleric that later became a Contemplative and Entropomancer in a campagin that went Epic and I loved it. Clerics and Druids have been my fav class apart from monks ever since.

Anyways my main point was a concept I came up with for my warforged to help the problem with the healing issue. Keep in mind as a cleric you can cast inflict spells, it comes into play. Take the feat Improved Fortification that makes you immune to crits and sneak attack, then healing from healing spells no longer affects you. Now couple that with the feat Tomb-Tainted Soul, from Libris Mortis, which only requies you to be non-good and now negative energy (inflict) spells heal you at full health and you also normally would take damage from healing spells but are immune to that effect.

My last DM did not allow that but I am hoping that my new DM allows it and I can make my Sacred Fist Warforged. :D

You are wrong actually. By RAW Improved fortification makes you immune to healing from healing spells, not damage from healing spells.

Okay that was my mistake, I mixed up my information. It was Healing immunity you needed from the warforged juggernaut that you needed to have to be come immune it. Since it states "Healing Immunity: Starting at 3rd level, as a warforged juggernaut becomes more like a construct and less like a living creature, it becomes immune to the effects of spells from the healing subschool." Now it says nothing of being affected my healing or damage, now this doesnt mean you cant still be hurt by positive energy, it just means a cleric or any other person who has cure spells can not use them to harm you.

That is more likely to work. Still it is debatable which of the 2 abilities takes priority over the other: the Juggernaut's healing immunity or Tomb Tainted Soul's damage from healing spells. Tomb Tainted Soul can be taken by constructs (the few constructs that actually get feats) so I guess it bypasses the construct's immunity to healing. So this is quite an unclear issue, for me at least.

For some reason I thought it was a divine spell, BUT oh well.
