| Jeebus201009-04-07, 08:47 PM | hey everybody, it's your lord and Master Jeebus with a new WF race Warforged brute +2str , -2 Dex , +2 con, -2 Wis, Cha powerful build +1 LA |
| Artector09-04-07, 10:23 PM | Off-hand I'd say its slightly under LA+1 (like .9). The penalties are a little harsher than is strictly necessary, but I think that's keeping in WF flavor. Lets analyze a little: (assuming get standard forged benefits) Its in line with the half-giant, who gets a +1 LA in trade for 1)Giant type, 2) +2 str, -2 dex, +2 con 3)powerful build 4) Low-light vision 5)Psi-like Stomp Lets see... 1)Construct (living) type 2) +2str, -2 dex, +2 con, -2 wis, -2 cha 3) powerful build 4) Slam attack 5) Composite plating Its pretty comparable. Anything I'm forgetting? |

With no penalties to wisdom and charisma and low-light vision, I'd rather prefer the half giant - and as far as my experience with D&D goes, there would be only a few players who would like to play a character with such penalties without bonuses weighing this out. Okay, living construct gives you some advantages: immunity to poison, and fatigue, and sleep, but also some disadvantages, like beeing unable to heal naturally, beeing subject to spells against constructs (and beeing discriminated by almost every other race on Eberron). But, since a standard Warforged without a level adjustment already has this "bonus", it can't be taken into account when determining a level adjustment, I think. You could also compare the Warforged Brute to the Goliath race from Races of Stone. This race has the powerful build ability, and +4 Str, -2 Dex, +2 Con. It is a monstrous humanoid, which you could also call advantageous, and it has two other bonuses that are equivalent to a feat, I think. So, compared to the Goliath, the Warforged Brute is even worse off. I would suggest giving the Warforged Brute the normal Warforged traits, plus the following: +4 Str, -2 Dex, +2 Con (for a total of +4) and powerful build. Half the Str bonus is outbalanced by the penalty to Dex, and the other half compensates that you do not get a base attack bonus for your level adjustment (compared to a fighter or a barbarian level). The Con bonus compensates for the "lost" hit points a normal level would grant you (and you also lose bonus hp from Con modifier, and are an easier target for some spells due to lesser hit dice). A fighter or barbarian level would give you some kind of feat or class ability, as well as some save bonus and skill points (and bonus skill points if your int is high enough) - all these you do not get with the level adjustment, but instead you gain Powerful Build, wich gives you an advantage in some situations (Intimidating, Grappling) and the ability to wield oversized weapons. Compared to the Goliath, abilities are a bit worse, and the Golith has more special traits, but the Warforged has the benefit of beeing immune to poison, sleep and fatigue. IMO this would, compared to the Goliath and Half Giant, be a worthy solution for the Warforged Brute, and this new "race" would then be a great choice for players. My Version: Warforged Brute all normal Warforged traits, plus: - +4 Str, -2 Dex, +4 Con, -2 Wis, -2 Cha (replacing the normal Warforged ability adjustments) - Powerful Build trait Excuses for this lengthy statement. *g* |
