I've started a Warforged character with the Mithral Body feat and it is basically a masterwork (must be as made with mithral) breastplate, right?

normal breastplate stats, Medium armor
armor bonus +5
max dex +3
armor check penalty -4
arcane spell failure chance 25%
20 ft movement

a mithral breast plate would have the following benefits as stated with DMG 284

Light armor
spell failure decreased 10%
max dex +2
armor check penalties lessened by 3
30ft movement

now the ECS and Races of Eberron books both state that after taking this feat a mithral warforged should be at -2 armor check penalty, even though the DMG states that mithral is -3, and I'm cool with that because its a feat, not a typical crafted armor. Whats bugging me though is the aspect of the masterwork -1 to armor check penalties.

Masterwork armor carries a +1 to armor check penalties, and I'm wondering if that is included in these stats, or is something to be added after.

I.e. does the normal Mithral Plate armor have +3 and then +1 for being masterwork, +4 total

then does the Warforged with this feat have +2 for mithral body, and a +1 for mithral being masterwork for a total of +3?

I'm thinking that because the "masterwork price is included" it should just stay at +3 for the regular mithral plate armor, +2 for the warfoged, is that right? I'd like it to go down obviously... ;)

A warforged with the Mithral body feat is not just a warforged with a built in mithral breastplate, masterwork or not.

Read the description of the feat Mithral Body. Those are the bonuses and penalties that the character has. No more, no less.

Yes, while the feat may be based on a mithril breastplate, it is not exactly one, nor does it ever claim to be.

What folks are getting at is that as it is a penalty to the same skills to which you apply an armor check penalty, it's a different kind of penalty. It isn't doubled for swimming, for instance. It's just a flat penalty.

Not being an ACP you also don't apply it as a non-proficiency modifier on attack and skill checks, for instance, if you are in a class that isn't proficient with that kind of armor.

Just a random thought...

The feat says taht you count as wearing light armor right?

Does that mean that you get to ignore the Arcane failure chance if you're a Warforged Warmage?
