Which races/monsters are spawn of Khyber? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I've read in a couple of books about how Eberron made humans, elves, dwarves and so forth, Siberys made the dragons and Khyber spat out the fiends.

So my question is what races\monsters are spawn of Khyber?

The only ones I can really say yes to right now are the Rakshasa. And where do the daelkyr and other aberrations fall in this?

Demons, fiends, that sort of thing.

The Daelkyr come from Xoriat, and they brought along mind flayers and beholders and things when they invaded. When they were trapped in Khyber after the invasion, they started creating other aberrations (anything else found in any of the books). I take it a bit further in my game and say that medusas/gorgons/basilisks/cockatrices are also aberrations created by the Lord of Stone daelkyr lord mentioned in PGE or one of the dragonshards or something.

Demons, fiends, that sort of thing.

The problem with demon and devils is that like the daelkyr they come from other planes (or a least that is their main habitat).

that is partly the truth in Eberron if my understanding has is correct. Yes they also spawn or what ever they do on the plane of eternal war (don't remember name right now). But they can also be spawned from Khyber who is the source of all evil in the world if one take the legends to be true etc. Others will know more about this than me.

This topic has been mentioned other before, but here's how I sum it up. The Spawn of Kyber inculde the Rakshasa and the Rajahs, but also certain aberrations/fiends. Aboleths are the the spawn of Kyber and control/ed an underwater empire long before the Daelkyr invasion (the sorce of this is form a much older thread). So which aberrations are Kyber-born or Daelkry-made is really up to you.

As for other fiends, that's really up to you aswell. Can Kyber spawn Pitfiends, Balors or anything like that, maybe? And if it can how does it differ from the same creature found on another plane. Maybe a Kyber-born Balor is not a creature made of flame like on Fernia, but a creature of made of darkness. Again it's up to you.

Khyber is for all intents and purposes another plane (something KB has stated many times). I don't see any problem with devils and demons coming from the depths of Khyber in addition to Shavarath.

Basically, in order to make a fiend of any particular type more of a "Khyber-spawn" just add "Native" to their Outsider subtype list. KB has said that, for GMs, any particular Outsider could conceivably be spawned in Khyber rather than originating on another plane, if it advances the plot. If you've used them as extraplanar invaders previously in the campaign, then you just note to the players that it "looks a little different than the other one" and come up with a good rationale why there'd be a different one around. ("Obviously, this indicates some new threat has emerged, such as a mind flayer or worse taking up residence in the Cogs of Sharn.")

Whould the umbragen drows fall into this catagory or not?

The answer is, "Probably not."

Unless the GM wants it, in which case the answer is, "Obviously so."

While Alhazred is absolutely right, the default answer is "no". The Umbragen weren't created in Khyber; they retreated to Khyber to escape the cataclysm that destroyed Xen'drik. And ever since then, they've been battling the creations of the daelkyr and the spawn of Khyber.

As others have said, I certainly support the idea that demons and devils normally found on other planes can also be spawned by Khyber, but that they would be native outsiders and different in appearance from their extraplanar cousins. As for Lazaro's mention of the aboleth as Khyber-spawn, more detail on this can be found in the Lords of Madness Eberron Expanded article.
