| extreme_tactician07-30-07, 01:27 PM | when I use Action Surge, can I charge? |
| Ryoden_Anariavas07-30-07, 03:22 PM | To put it more acuratley the question should be "Can I use Action Surge in conjuction with a Charge?" A charge is a full-round action, it starts with a straight unhindered move of at least 10 feet and up to twice your base speed followed by a single attack that has a bonus of +2 to hit. You recieve a -2 to your AC after performing a charge that lasts until the start of your next turn. The Action Surge feat allows you to spend 2(?) action points to get a "bonus" move action or standard action. Bottom line yes you could but you need to be clear about the order of your actions the bonus action needs to be before or after the charge. For instance you could have your Barbarian drop the monster with one attack then charge across the room to attack the thing eating the wizard. Or you could tumble through the line of minions and then charge the BBEG who thought no-one could get to him for a few rounds there are plenty of possibilities. Hope that helps |
| extreme_tactician07-31-07, 02:30 PM | Quote from Player's Handbook page 155 "if you are able to take only a standard action or move action (...Action Surge...) on your turn, you can still charge, but you are only allowed to move up your speed"... This paragraph is the reason of my doubt! |
| Ryoden_Anariavas07-31-07, 02:41 PM | I just checked the SRD and you have found a gem my friend. For the longest time now I thought they have removed partial charges from 3.5 but it appears they left it in the description of regular charging. As for your question It appears that the "partial charge" can only be used if you are "slowed" or are participating in a supprise round. Give me an example of how you want it to work and maybe I can give you a better answer |
| madninjapimp07-31-07, 05:27 PM | I would suspect that the idea is to use action surge first to charge, probably with leap attack, powerful charge and greater powerful charge, a 2 handed weapon, and power attack maxed out from the shock trooper tactical feat at the expense of AC, not base attack, then follow up with a full attach also benifiting from the full power attack of shock trooper, then activating a belt of battle for another full attack. At around 13th level i had a WF Jug. pull that stunt and do over 200 points (or more I can't completely recall)of damage. Needless to say yes it looks good by raw, but is something a DM should keep an eye on. |
| extreme_tactician08-01-07, 02:13 PM | u got it... |
| extreme_tactician08-05-07, 04:13 PM | ok... I asked Wizards: u cannot use action surge to perform a partial charge... It would be great |
| madninjapimp08-07-07, 01:37 PM | Well, you'll just ahve to save up for that belt of battle, or add a pounce feat in there. |
