| Rake03-16-07, 12:29 AM | So the armblade is priced just like a +1 weapon. 2,000 for a +1 enhancemnt bonus and 300 for masterworking. My questions are: Can you make an armaxe, or an armspear, with the same formula? If so: If an armblade (a +1 bastard sword) is impossible to disarm, deals double damage when set against a charge and gets a +2 to disarm attempts, should an armaxe get the same bonuses? An armhammer? Are there stats for weapons like this? |
| Cambian0003-16-07, 10:21 PM | I dont think that axes or hammers exist for this type of modification because both of them require an ammount of leverage in a fulcrum action to be effective. The sword only has to be drug across someones belly to work. Try this: strap a normal carpenters hammer to the back of your wrist and try to hammer a nail. It won't work all that well because the hammer (like the weapon version thereof) requires your wrist as a fulcrum to create more leverage in the swing. Axes work in much the same way. If you strapped a handaxe to your wrist and tried to chop a piece of wood, it would cause a bit of pain to your elbow and won't do much damage to the wood.....for the same reasons as the hammer. |
| Shimekiri03-16-07, 10:53 PM | Or try this: cast a fireball. It's warforged we're talking about. Real world rules need not apply. Although Cambian's explanation makes perfect sense if you want a reason not to and he's correct in what he says. I just don't feel the need to apply real world physics to my geeky made up games. I don't see why you can't use the same mechanic, though an armspear would cook kind of dorky IMO. Nothing looks as cool as a swordblade but modifications are what keep a game fresh so I say go for it. It's kind of like saying you can't play a Samurai because there are no Japanese/Asian cultures in the game world. A set of rules CAN be independent of the fictional description they're given. If you want your forged to have big a ole' mornigstar hand then more power to ya'. |
| Edymnion03-16-07, 11:04 PM | You can make a WF component out of any magic item that you can make for a normal character. The armblade only requires the exotic weapon prof because it is a bastard sword being used in one hand. Any one handed weapon can be made into an attatched component, meaning armaxes, armmaces, armspears, and anything else you want can be made, as long as it can be weilded one handed. |
| Cambian0003-17-07, 12:40 AM | I am in complete agreement with Shim and Edy. I only put the "mechanics" into it because the question was asked as to why the other weapons weren't statted. In real world, the gauntlet sword did exist. The others did not for the reasons I explained earlier. BUT....That said - This is DnD not real world and the sky is "technically" the limit ((unless you're SpellJamming of course)) as to the kind of cool and innovative ways you can tweak and modify your world. Cheers to All - And to All a Good Night. |
| Dragom03-17-07, 01:33 AM | Though the axe would probably get a +2 to sunder attempts instead of disarm though... |
| shadowpavement03-22-07, 11:18 PM | Check out the warforged with the armblade in the full page spread of the Players Guide to Eberron cover picture. His armblade is hinged at the wrist which makes for good manuverability and all that fun choppy action that you want with a sword and need in alot of cases to properly pary and counter attack. |
| Hideous Phidias03-23-07, 02:47 AM | If you want to go by the pictures then look at the picin the core book of the warforged juggernaut p84. I would say that yoy could make any one haned melee weapon into a armblade. The added damage inthe charge comes from the charge its self, adding it power to that of the weapon's. As for the +2 to disarm I would leave it, becauceone has to remember you would be your weapon to try and pull or grab the other person's weapon. I would thinkhaving your weapon, no matter what it maybe, as part of your arm would give you some bonuses to this. |
| Dragom03-23-07, 03:55 PM | Maybe the Immune to Disarm, but a +2 to sunder as opposed to a +2 to disarm, decidedly has almost 56% more axiness. |
| Neutronium_Dragon03-25-07, 02:46 PM | Another example: The warforged juggernaut picture on P84 of the ECS. That sure looks like an armaxe to me! |
| Tamerlane03-28-07, 04:11 AM | Secrets of Xen'drik pg 148-9 features an attachable claw gauntlet, axe, and flail. They all feature similar mechanics of the armblade (the gaunltet gets +2 to sunder, the flail +2 to initiate a grapple, and the axe no additional properties). I see no reason why any weapon couldn't be crafted as an attachable component. I'd rather like to see a Warforged Knight wielding an "armlance" while riding a Clockwork Steed... |
| Dragom03-28-07, 04:39 AM | Is an armlance a bit like a Front Mission hydrolic spike? |
| crashbangboom04-10-07, 04:39 AM | I think it would be reasonable. most of the warforged in the paintings and pictures have similar mounts for : an axe(wf juggernaut in the ECS, and i saw one with a rapier somewhere. |
| Bluebrush04-10-07, 06:41 PM | Another example: The warforged juggernaut picture on P84 of the ECS. That sure looks like an armaxe to me!Interesting note: Battering Ram is listed as using a "Swordbond" which indicates generalised rules for armblade-like weapons may have existed but been scrapped in production. |
| UnderworldLord04-10-07, 08:54 PM | I do love when they forget to clean up their messes. But I think armharpoons are in order. Just make sure they 'launch' as a thrown weapon, with a chain hooked into the holding portion. Sounds like fun to me  . |
| gaerfindel04-12-07, 11:58 AM | Equally plausible is the arm-flail, using the foorman's (heavy) flail as a base. Add armour spikes, introduce the opposition to "the grinder"! |
| dunkeykong04-12-07, 01:00 PM | Equally plausible is the arm-flail, using the foorman's (heavy) flail as a base. Add armour spikes, introduce the opposition to "the grinder"! Already did it. Secrets of Xen'Drix, i believe. |
