| wfurlong7806-12-07, 08:54 AM | I dont have the books in front of me so I will try to explain it best I can. Can you use Whirlwind feat and the fighters 16th lvl alt ability that deals double damage together? I think whirlwind feat says while using a full attack action while the alt ability says you have to use a full attack action. can someone clarify this for me? Also, Can someone clarify if I crit x3 during the double damage ability how that is calculated.. Is it Crit = 2{3(weapon damage + modifier)} For all you mathmaticians out there sorry if its the correct formula. |

So you cant use them together. AndI"m not sure the "offical" ruling, but atleast when we play, if you have a x3 weapon and double it, you only get x4. We only increase the modifier by 1. But that's just us. I'll see if I cant get ahold of my books and check for you tho. |

| Cifer06-12-07, 01:06 PM | this attack deals double damage(I am assuming that only the weapon and str bonus are doubles, not say, your flaming weapon dice and such) Unless the specific instruction of the ability says otherwise, doubling the damage means doubling the damage die of the weapon and every bonus damage that is expressed as a number instead of a die. For example, a mounted paladin who channels a Smite Evil into his flaming +1 lance charge deals (2*(Weapon die + Str bonus + enhancement bonus + smite evil damage)) + (flaming damage). Further, multipliers are generally added instead of multiplied, meaning a crit (*3) on the lance charge (*2) deals (original 3+(2-1) = ) *4 damage, not *6. The only time this become a little fuzzy is when power attack kicks in. I'm not quite sure about the official ruling, but we play it such that it's multiplier for weapon size is multiplied with a possible crit. |

| Neutronium_Dragon06-13-07, 06:49 PM | The most common and effective use of that substitution level ability is to combine it with the Robilar's Gambit feat in the same book, thereby getting to take a free double-damage smack at anyone who hits you - every time they hit you. You just have to make sure that you've got a really good healer backing you up... |
