| dgove04-25-08, 09:32 PM | Hi all I left my players in last nights session preparing for a long journey but they were without mounts. Someone speculated "Hey lets get some magebred bears to ride...". However, I have never seen a price listed for magebred bears... nor any other sort of trained bear (black or brown...). Could anyone help out or is there a sources that I haven't investigated that will have this information? Cheers D |

You as the DM would have to make a way for them to get one. You could give it to them easily or make them work(quest) for it. As for training animals that info is in the PHB. Animals can be trained to learn things by using the handle animal skill. |

There are many uses for bears that dont have to do with the military. Ever seen a bear at the circus? Ever heard of introducing predators into a region to cull excess animal populations? Not to mention wealthy rulers and merchants who want a private menagerie of exotic critters. Then, or course, there's always a demand due to bear-b-cues  DocB :88E: vs :coolcthul Who shall prevail? |
| Edymnion04-28-08, 12:59 PM | Yes, but why would you need magebred bears for that? And even if there was a legit civilian use for magebred bears, they would almost assuredly all be of the endurance variety. No super strength bears on the public market. |
| justicar34704-28-08, 01:02 PM | My recomendation for when players want to buy animals or magical beasts is to make the price 100 gp or 1,000 gp times the creature's hit dice or CR. Adjust it to what you see fit. A good comparison is to see how much it would cost the character to buy a summon monster or nature's ally scroll for that creature. If the price is less than the scroll then you need to increase the price. Being magebread doubles the price. |
