| Ront Iron-Roar04-11-07, 01:05 PM | For as long as I've watched the Eberron boards I've seen people on occassion bring up threads about how to make Caster guns from Outlaw Star and putting them into Eberron. I've also wracked my brain trying to figure out how to help my friend make a storm-elemental bound weapon. Without the aid of banging my head on a sink an idea has come to me. You know how the elemental bound into the Khyber shard races through this maze-like matrix in the shard? And you know how the elemental constantly racing through it creates energy? Why not create a type of wand that holds the energy and then releases it in a blast of magical or elemental energy? The question is other then what it takes to bind an elemental. What other process to you think should go into it? I've contemplated adding haste into the mix just to speed up the elemental in it's race and thus creating more energy. |
| InfinityStar804-11-07, 09:43 PM | Well, first thing that poped into my head was the Omnimental from MM4 (Maybe MM3?). That elemental can shoot part of itself out at people causing mass amounts of damage, but takes 10 points of damage to itself for each ball it fires. Why not have something like that in a want? You can use it as much as it has HPs. |
| UnderworldLord04-11-07, 11:46 PM | So... can you have the cleric healing the elemental while you fire? I mean, then you've got the elemental racing energy + bolt energy for if you want some extra damage. Now I've got to worry about binding a new one when/if it dies. So the question becomes can a cleric heal a bound elemental. I don't think I've seen anyone try to kill one before, and to my knowledge there is no ruling on it... |
| Ront Iron-Roar04-11-07, 11:57 PM | Hmmmmmmm.... Why not have the wand go dormant after it uses up so much health? That or incorporate a healing spell of some sort into the creation? Constantly feeding the elemental healing energy? Have it have so many uses before it needs to recharge? That or a slow recharge between each blast. One round you charge and fire. The second round it cools and heals. Then repeat. I don't want this device to become too powerful. Though, there could be rules about being able to fire it the very next round by sacrificing 10 hp. |
| UnderworldLord04-12-07, 10:13 AM | Maybe you could have that 10HP used to Empower the spell fired, as the feat. That gves us a mechanic to work on. As for recharge rates, this could all simply be flavor for a wand that casts. Normally it casts lightning but in this wand it casts empowered lightning, but only so many times before either burning out the wand totally. If you have even one use of empower it can heal up for another... if it has leftover HP that != 10 then you have to wait until it has 10HP. As a general rule you could have either only the DM knows how much HP he thing has, or make a device attached to the wand which would let you know how much its got. |
| Melvin the Mediocre04-12-07, 11:18 AM | It might be kind of interesting to have a rod with a bound omnimental with fast healing. So everytime you fire the wand, it does 10 damage to the omnimental, but he gets his hp back at 2 / round. I don't know how many hitpoints the omnimental gets, but if it has low hitpoints this could be a nifty item. It it has to many hitpoints, this essentially becomes an unlimited use device as you just wait a few minutes between encounters. If it had, for example, 18 hitpoints you would fire it once, then have to wait a minimum of 2 rounds to use it again without killing the device. Then if you shot it again, you would have to wait 5 rounds before firing it. It would be a lot of book keeping though. |
| shavna05-03-07, 08:49 PM | You could use the feat cull wand essence from MoE that allows you to expend a charge from a wand to deal X amount of damage, a chart is included. You would price the ammo as 1 charge wands, no specific spell would be needed for the "wand". I hope that is helpful in some way. |
| Phalo05-05-07, 05:59 AM | how about instead you go full on outlaw star 1. make magic gun a. basic outlawstar gun shape b. Enchant it with read magic 2. Take a variant of scribe scroll but make it scribe caster shell you could put any spell that is a ray or blast that ranges from ray of frost to meteor swarm |
