| Nerdicus12-12-07, 11:55 PM | My group recently came into a cache of Khyber shards. they got 5 tiny shards and 3 small shards. I know that the books say that they come in small, medium and large, but I thought that there should be a tiny. the group is tough. Too tough actually, so I don't want anything that makes them tougher in combat, but i do want some ideas for things that they will find cool. So far I have though of taking the three small shards and bing three small air elementals to a small skiff sized craft for a small ariship. The ship would be big enough to hold all six of the players plus a small cargo hold under the seats. Aside from that i am at a loss. I have some vague ideas for things but nothing that really sticks. Like, a bound air elemental to a belt of vest or armor that gives a ac bonus to Ranged attacks. Or, a bound earth elemental in a pair of boots that grant the wearer the ability to slide along the ground a double their normal speed. Any of you guys ever come with any cool bound items? All suggestions welcome! |

Basically, binding an air elemental to certain kinds of instruments allows you to manipulate the sounds it makes to an astounding degree, and produce some sounds you could never make with a normal instrument. In fact, entirely new styles of music sprang up specifically to take advantage of those new sounds. Since the Khyber shards used to bind the elementals are clearly visible on the outside of the instruments, the new styles are collectively referred to as "rock" music. As of yet, our bard has no groupies:weep: . |

You know if this wasn't such a wonderfully creative and rp-rich idea I'd so sick the bad pun police on you! lol Thanks for sharing both the idea you guys used as well as the smile enclosed with it that appeared on my face after reading it. :D |
| Ehtiar01-17-08, 11:05 AM | I just got the nice image of an artificer with a miny-air elemental bound into a contraption of lockpicks... Aka, flick open the ring, and the bound elemental works the lockpicks since it can spread it's "body" around the lockpicks and inside the lock to figure out which way to use them... For all those times you need to unlock a door but also have to worry about other people/creatures/boojums creeping up behind you... Or a set of pitons bound with a very young fire elemental.. using heat to "melt" into and "fuse" with walls/mountains that you're trying to climb up.. Making it easier to set them into hard surfaces..and then having a better grip.. |

My Articifer assisted another PC that set up a resturaunt that specialized in exotic fare (ex adventurers, don't askl about the menu just trust it) by building several items. Ice Elemental bound stones where used to create an ice room for storage of perishables. Water and Fire elementals were bound into a set of pots and pitchers to create a coffee/tea maker. Fire elemental powered stoves were used to speed up cooking prep. Air elemental's bound into ceiling fans help keep a nice comfortable breeze flowing through the seating area as well. I'll post more once I get a chance to research our old notes ;) |

Either a Forge of Tempering that can either be used to create masterwork weapons / armor at reduced speed, or 'reforge' pre-existing non-masterwork metal items into masterwork items. A Hearth or cookpot that can purify food and drink and / or add a bonus to Profession (cook) or Survival rolls could be neat. A fire elemental bound into a washcloth could be used to heat water to burn away infection, giving a person whose infected wound or diseased self is washed with the cloth a +4 bonus on their next Fortitude save vs. any disease currently infecting them. (In the case of a non-wound-related contagion, the steaming cloth could be held over the nose and mouth to inhale the hot cleansing vapors.) A water elemental bound into an item could give a person help in swimming, ranging from a bonus to Swim checks, to negating penalties (if the elemental is bound to a suit of plate armor, for instance), to confering an actual swim speed at the higher levels of power. A suit of armor, clothing or a weapon with this sort of water elemental bound within it could allow the user to function underwater as if under Free Action (not confering any resistance to grapple attempts or paralyzation effects, merely negating water resistance and allowing the user to fight and move and see/hear/speak unpenalized underwater). Boots with a bound water elemental could allow a 1 round immediate use Water Walk effect a few times a day (but never more than once per minute), allowing the wearer to make a short dash across water (up to a full-move / run action, before he sinks). Perhaps it would only work if he's at least taking a double move action, but be usable at will, requiring him to run flat-out if he doesn't want to sink! A bound air elemental in a crystal around the throat could allow the user to hold his breath for 10x as long as normal, as it purifies the air within his lungs. Or it could be a feather cloak that allows an immediate use of Feather Fall (self only) at CL 1 three times a day. A bound earth elemental could be built into a set of craftsman's tools or a whetstone and mend / repair items of earthen materials (clay, glass, stone, metal). It would only Repair 1 hit point of damage per minute of 'mending' and require a Craft check (DC 10 for mundane gear, DC 15 for a Warforged) to operate. When it fails a Craft check (which it will always do on a 1), it will no longer work on that particular item (or Warforged!) for 24 hours. Free healing for the Warforged, at one hit point per minute, so long as he doesn't roll that 1! Boots bound with an earth spirit might allow the wearer to ignore the effects of rough or uneven earthen terrain, such as mud or stone or loose gravel. Or they might provide Stability (+4 to resist Bull Rushes, etc) so long as he's standing on earth or stone. A weapon or item composed of stone or metal that is bound with an earth elemental might repair damage to itself, or even have a doubled Hardness score to avoid item damage, as the elemental spirit bound within it works to reinforce or restore missing stone or metal. |
| dsivis02-18-08, 12:47 PM | Of course, if you REALLY want to be ridiculous, use a fire and water elemental to build a steam engine... Ok I'm done. |
| Sithraldor02-20-08, 09:39 AM | You could bind earth elemental in pitons so it could just sink in the rock. Fire elemental could bind to make a portable forge or something. Air Elemental with a mask could be like a scuba set. Water Elemental to make a cantine of endless water. the Ice elemental frig idea was cool, btw. |
